DVR box issues?

We had an issue that the TV would blank out periodically..looking like we were changing the channel but we didn't. we had the box replaced and I thought it was ok, but it's starting to do it again.

Also, when you first turn the TV on does it tell you to hit any key to watch TV and then tells you to wait while the hard drive is powering up?

I have cablevision coming again today to check it out. I really hope it's not the TV.

Re: DVR box issues?

they told me that should only happen when they update software at 12 or 1am.

The other issue I'm really concerned about. The screen and sound just blank out for a second. Replacing the box helped but now it's doing it again.

I have no warranty on the TV so I'm really praying it's the box or a signal.

This happens to me, too. The cable box goes into sleep mode when the TV has been off for a while. Hitting a key "wakes" it up. I've found if I hit the "live" button and it doesn't go to TV right away, I just change the channel and that goes away.

If you turn the cable box & the tv off when you are done watching for a while (like at night) it shouldn't go into sleep mode.

If you leave the tv & box on you will see a message around 1am that says if you don't hit a key, it will go into sleep mode. This also happens when the tv is off & the box is on(you just don't see it), b/c the cable box doesn't knwo whether the tv is on or not.

You can turn off the cable box & it will still record things you had scheduled for over-night.

I'm not sure what the other issues is, but maybe turning the box off at night will help.

The DVR is basically a hard drive & they can freeze up if they are left on too long, like a computer.

Re: DVR box issues?

the other issue could be a signal issue. Hopefully cablevision can fix it.

I HATE the message that says "press any key...". I always think to myself - I did press a key - it was the POWER key!!!!!!! I moved from Queens where I had the Time Warner DVR and loved it. Never had to press a key. Don't know why it's different for Cablevision. I understand it's a hard drive and it goes to sleep and all that - but why the difference between the two companies?

Sorry - I am no help - just had to vent and commiserate with your troubles!
