Eating table food (cut up really small)
When did you start DC on table food cut up really small? Was it based on age, or number of teeth?

Re: Eating table food (cut up really small)
Around 7-8 months. She only had 2 or 3 teeth. By 9 months she wanted no part of baby food and even then only had I think 4 teeth!

Re: Eating table food (cut up really small)
Also around 7-8 months. I started him with soft foods first (bananas, avocado and sweet potato etc). He is 9 months and would still rather have purees because I can shovel it into his mouth faster
He is so much better at eating things now though and he will feed himself eggs, pancakes, grilled cheese etc.

Re: Eating table food (cut up really small)
has nothing to do with teeth...their gums are great for eating...DS started refusing pureed food at 8 months and has been on table food ever since..
They have to show a willingness to do it and be able to swallow.. I started with american cheese..lots of soft stuff..

Re: Eating table food (cut up really small)
My 8 1/2 month old eats anything we give her from spinach lasagna, to halibut, etc. I just make sure it is very small and easily mashed. I just cut everything to the size of a cheerios and she has no trouble. She has 2 1/2 teeth.

Re: Eating table food (cut up really small)
DS started to refuse any kind of baby/pureed food off of a spoon at 8 1/2 months. He is now strictly on table food with only 2 teeth. I just make sure that it is well balanced and mushy enough to gum to death! He eats just about everything that we eat! It makes going places so much easier too!! No baby food to worry about!

Re: Eating table food (cut up really small)
DS was 11 mos old b/c his mother was scared of choking....guess i'm not the best person to ask.
We (ex-h, ex-MIL, my mom and myself) went for a CPR class before DS started food.

Re: Eating table food (cut up really small)
If I waited for teeth- DD would be eating baby food until 2 at this rate! She is 9 months old and not one tooth yet!
We started soft, cut up TINY table foods at around 8 months or so. She knows how to chew it, swallow it, etc- but to be honest- she isn't a big fan of anything. She could take or leave the table food IMO. I think she is on track to have the same eating issues I do- in other words- I hate ANYTHING that is healthy! To me it tastes like POOP!

This made me laugh! My oldest daughter didn't get her first tooth until she was 14 1/2 months old. I swear I thought she was never going to get teeth. Anyway she ate everything and was very efficient using her gums. I believe I started with all my kids on table food at 7 months with things like cheerios and puffs and they were all on table food exclusively by 9 or 10 months old.

Re: Eating table food (cut up really small)
At 9 months DD had 2 bottom teeth and we started with some table food here and there. Now at 11 months (still only two bottom teeth) she is 99% on table food.

Re: Eating table food (cut up really small)
Teeth have NOTHING to do with readiness for food! They don't get molars to chew food until after they're 1 and they're not biting off anything with the rest of the teeth they have/don't have....
DS started table food at around 7/8 months old. He REFUSED to be spoon fed. It was around then that I started giving him 3 meals a day as well.
