EBF & Giving a Bottle

I am EBF. DS is 11 weeks.

We introduced a bottle around 4 weeks. He took to it without a problem.

The past week or so, he is refusing the bottle. He doesn't get one often - just when I have to go somewhere and can't bring him.

Now it seems he won't take it all.

Any suggestions or advice?

my DS did that occasionally too. it helped to have someone else give him the bottle - if he knew i was around, he only wanted me.

i would also try a different kind of bottle. my DS like the playtex drop ins b/c the nipples were larger.

if he is hungry he will eat. i know it's tough Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't give him the bottle for this reason too.

My husband, mother, and MIL have all tried it and he seems to not want it.

I will have to try the playtex drop ins.

I was using Dr. Browns which my cousin recommended to me.

Re: EBF & Giving a Bottle

Are you warming it up enough? At the beginning, DS would take a bottle right out of the refrigerator. Then I stopped giving him bottles for a while. When family members tried to give him bottles again, he refused them until they were warmed up.

Are you there when DC takes a bottle? I can't be in the room when DS has a bottle and I can't give him a bottle.

Could there be an issue with the nipple? Perhaps DC prefers a faster or maybe even a slower flow one.

They are warmed up, but I think he is getting too fast of a flow.

Re: EBF & Giving a Bottle

I give DS around 1to2 bottles a day now, but in the beginning I would go days without giving him one. He sometimes would make a disgusted face when given a bottle of formula. He actually still does it when the bottle is too cold.
I tried out a couple of different bottles, to see which one he likes. He would drink from Avent in the beginning but now he wants nothing to do with it. He really likes the Dr. Brown bottles.
So I would try different bottle company's, and make sure you warm it up the first few times.
THis happened to my sister and her DD wound up never taking a bottle. That was ruff on her, since she could hardly go anywhere.

Probably too fast, make sure the nipple is a slow flow.
