EBF moms - transitioning to cows milk

Can you talk about your experience, what you did, how you did it, how your DC took to a bottle etc? I need to start thinking about this. I think I still want to nurse morning and night and will just replace daytime milk for now. thanks!

i did it cold turkey...one day BM, one day cows milk

My DS took a sip out of the bottle with cow's milk took the bottle out of his mouth gave a funny look at the bottle...like..."hmmm..tastes a lil different..." then put it back in his mouth and never looked back!

Neither one of my kids would drink cows milk. I tried adding flavor to it. Warmed it. in a cup and in a bottle. Nothing. My ds didn't drink and actual cup of milk until he was over 3 years old and even now he rarely will drink it.

I went from boob to sippy of Milk....i did not give her any bottles. I nursed in the morning and at night and gave her sippy cups with milk during the day...with ovaltine. It took a few weeks for her to actually drink milk from her sippy. she was NOT a fan at the beginning.

With DS #1, I transitioned him slowly. I did the first week with one ounce of cow's milk and the rest BM. The second week I did about half and half and I think within 3 weeks he was on whole milk completely. He went through a milk strike when I first transitioned him. I even tried giving him milk in the sippy cup but he would only drink water and juice out of the sippy. After a few days, he finally accepted the bottle with the whole milk. Oh, i should add that I continued to nurse both morning and night until DS #1 was 15 months old.

I plan to start transitioning DS #2 in the next few weeks as he will be 1 on 7/2. I will do it the same way I did with #1.

I"m at the end of the process right now.. I swaped one bfing session with some cm sippy every couple of days and right now we are on our last two bfing sessions.. I thought I was going to keep the morning and night but it was easier to give up the morning one that it was to give up the afternoon napping one, we are working on that one right now. I will save the nightime one for last.
