EBF Mom's on Dairy/Soy free diet
Is there a thread for this already? Going through past thread I noticed a few people are or have been doing this diet.
I have been doing it for about 2 1/2 weeks now and was wondering what/how other Moms are doing...
Maybe we could share ideas on food and good finds (brands/stores etc)? Or maybe just share what you typically eat.
I am really determined to make my baby feel better and will stick with this if its the problem. So far it has been OK but a bit tricky (SO many things have dairy in it!!)
OK, if anyone has any advice/tips please share Thanks!

Re: EBF Mom's on Dairy/Soy free diet
I don't have any advice... but just wanted to give you for sticking to the EBF and trying everything you can to make him feel better! That must be so hard to be dairy free!
ETA... Actually I might have a little... he might grow out of it in a few months and you might be able to gradually introduce it back in... but ask your dr.
I know Carlie was SLIGHTLY sensitive to Dairy for me... but I didn't do dairy free, I just didn't drink Milk... and I found it alot better. Now that she is 10 months I drink at least a glass a day and she has no problem. I think I started to test drinking some milk again around 6 months...

Re: EBF Mom's on Dairy/Soy free diet
hey! good for you!! I am doing it currently for the 2nd time around.
basically, just avoid all processed foods.
morning: smoothies.. 1 sm banana 1 cup of frozen strawberries 1 cup of rice milk blend, delicious!
also TJ's oatmeal muffins and whole wheat english muffins with pb. sometimes i scramble an egg with water and add veggies to it.
lunch-a lot of soups. hummas and TJ's pitas
dinner- pasta meat salads
TJs is your best friend. seriously. first time around, i did the year without them. Then we got one down here...it is so much easier this time around.
if you don't have one, i lived on arnold select hamburger buns.
good luck!!! just take it one day at a time!

Re: EBF Mom's on Dairy/Soy free diet
I'm doing the Dairy/Soy/Egg free diet. Michelle (munchkinfacemama) is also, she's been a HUGE help with any questions I've had! I'm still trying to get food ideas and find things I can eat, but it's really hard. I end up eating the same things OVER and OVER and OVER. That would be great if we could start a thread for it!
Feel free to FM me with any questions. Did you remove soybean oil and soy lecithan from your diet too?

Re: EBF Mom's on Dairy/Soy free diet
Here's my typical day:
Breakfast: Oatmeal with banana or Sesame Ezekial bread toasted with Earth Balance soy-free spread and TJ rasberry fruit spread
Lunch: TJ Original Hummus with TJ Pita Chips or TJ Mediterranean Flatbread with a little olive oil on both sides, heat in oven on 350 for 5 minutes. Cut into quarters and top with hummus and sliced cucumbers. Quinoa - sautee onions and celery in olive oil, then add 1 cup quinoa, 2 cups water and any other veggie (I do squash, green peppers, or asparagus). I eat this with pita chips too. Salad PBJ on TJ Whole Wheat bread (it's kinda like cardboard, but you get used to it LOL) Boar's Head cold cuts I'm pretty sure don't have dairy or soy. I've only gotten salami so far.
Dinner: I've been making some recipes from the crockpot thread on here because I don't have time to cook when DH is working (he works nights). So far so good!
ETA: I also eat a LOT of mexican food. Fajitas, taco salads, etc. I make my own salsa and buy TJ refried beans. I live at Trader Joe's, but Whole Foods is the only place I can find the Earth's Balance Soy Free.

Re: EBF Mom's on Dairy/Soy free diet
I am on a dairy free diet (I can have soy though) and also find myself eating the same things over and over! In the beginning I ate a LOT of pasta, and plain bagels. I've been doing it for 7 months now and have started to branch out a bit more now. I found good "staples" that are dairy free. I use Earth Balance butter, which I really like. The one I use is soy based but I just found out they make a soy free version as well. It's in a red container. I still haven't found decent cheese, which makes me sad because I LOVE cheese. I've tried almond milk, soy milk, coconut milk, and rice milk, and my favorite is almond milk. I get the vanilla flavor. It's really good and nice and creamy. I use it cereal and I use flavored coconut milk creamer in my coffee. Lately, when I go out to eat, I get a salad with grilled chicken or a tuna salad wrap or chicken salad wrap with bacon. I have split pea soup at home a lot. I've found a lot of snacky type things (I have a major sweet tooth ). Overall, I've found Stop and Shop to be the best supermarket for finding alternative foods. HTH!

Posted by CrisiDrue Did you remove soybean oil and soy lecithan from your diet too?
I did. I really don't eat processed foods to begin with so its not so hard but I LOVE dairy, lol.
Janice: TJ is my favorite already, especially their vanilla greek yogurt Obviously can't eat that right now. I also like Wild by Nature and sometimes Fairway..
In the morning, every morning, I have oatmeal with sliced almonds, walnuts, dried blueberries/cranberries and I add a bit of vanilla almond milk. Then a couple of hours later I also have a smoothie of some kind. Dinner I have a protein (chicken, fish mostly), veggie and maybe sweet potato and brown rice.
Those meals are kinda easy but its the in between that's tough, I am just not a salad person and there is only so much grilled chicken I can take. I really don't even like meat, lol, but I need the protein.
I am glad I am off dairy anyway though, I always wanted to try it and this is the perfect push.
It's also tough when I am out, to find something quick. It's always been hard to find healthy stuff quick but now it also has to be dairy free, lol.

Re: EBF Mom's on Dairy/Soy free diet
yeah, i am a lunch packer. I only get in trouble when i eat out. I find myself ordering things that aren't even good.
I found that i can have soybean oil. it is the soy protein that my babies had a problem with.
I eat a ton of lentil soup. I am not a meat eater and this diet is easy to lean on carbs...so I try and protein up on beans when possible.
i would suggest finding a pancake recipe that you like and can make substitutions with...the baby is going to want table foods before you know it
we do taco night pretty often as well.

Oohh fajitas, good idea!!
When you said that I just went to check the Earth balance I have and IT HAS SOY I just got it so whatever, only used a couple of times, but still!! I read the label, said dairy free and just got it without reading the INGREDIENTS, lol!
I made PB balls for the GTG today and I had to go to 2 stores to find dark chocolate w/o dairy or soy! It really is in so many things...

Re: EBF Mom's on Dairy/Soy free diet
I did the diet for a year and DS is finally able to tolerate both. I didn't eat anything with soy lecithin or oil so I was really limited. It was so hard in the beginning, but not too bad once you get used to it. I am not a cook at all, so it was hard for me to find quick and easy things to make.
I found a great butter substitute, Earths Balance Soy Free (in a red tub). With out that I could have never stuck to the diet! I also use rice milk as a substitute in cooking and baking.
I did most of my shopping at Sherry's Heathy Gourmet in Babylon. It's smaller than Whole Foods but carries most of the same things. They are great there and will special order things if you ask.
Breakfast: Fruit, Oatmeal, Eggs, bacon, lenders frozen bagels are D/S free, Kinickinick brand waffles, Rice Crispies with rice milk, coconut milk yogurt
Lunch: Sandwiches: Rudi's Organic White bread, Some pita breads are Ok too, Boar's Head cold cuts are safe. I found a Canola Mayo that's not bad. Pita and humus, salads, soups

I get Enjoy Life brand chocolate chips, which are dairy and soy free. I have an awesome brownie/brownie cookie recipe from Bethenny Frankel's book Skinnygirl dish that are soy, dairy, nut and egg free! I will post it when DD takes a nap.

Re: EBF Mom's on Dairy/Soy free diet
I have been on this diet since DD was 6 weeks old. It is hard at first, and no soy makes it harder, but now I am so used to it. It is a PITA at restaurants I must say, but at home it is simple. For me, besides weight loss, it is making a huge difference in my arthritis and fibromyalgia pain, so I will be sticking to it after weaning except I will not be as rigid at restaurants.
I found many good items and substitutions. We were initially dairy, soy, casein, whey, soy lecithin, nut, seafood and egg free, but we successfully re-added egg at 5 months.
Here are some go to meals
Breakfast
Oatmeal with rice milk (I like plain. You can add fruit, cinnamon, maple syrup) Now since I have eggs-scrambled eggs, Eggs with ham on a roll, egg and bacon, eggs with onions and peppers Coconut milk yogurt with nut, soy and dairy free granola Toast with Earth's Balance soy free vegan butter and jam
Lunch
Salad-I either make my own dressing (balsamic vinegar, EVOO, dijon mustard, salt, pepper) or I use Annie's Naturals Lemon Chive (it is very high in fat, so I don't do that often). I use all different veggies, avocado, chicken, steak
Sandwich with Rudi's organic bread, or Whole Foods bakery rye bread (most of their breads are safe)-Boar's Head cold cuts are soy and dairy free, as are their hot dogs
Hamburger with homemade guac and Alexia brand fries (waffle or sweet potato)
Dinner
Steak, Chicken, Hamburgers-I use Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce which is soy free. I also make brisket, beef stew, chili. I make all of my own seasonings and I experiment a lot.
Homemade sauce with wheat pasta. Sauteed mixed mushrooms with EVOO over wheat pasta. Homemade meatballs
I found good breadcrumbs at Whole Foods
Snacks
Sweet Potato chips Hummus (no Sabra, most others are soy free) and Stacy's Pita chips Homemade guacamole with tortilla chips (check labels-plenty are fine Homemade baked goods or Enjoy Life cookies Butternut Squash soup by Imagine (Whole Foods)
I have a lot more, but I need to think when DD isn't yelling at me!

Oh I use So Coconut Milk creamer in French Vanilla for coffee-it is a bit sweet, but pretty good. The Hazelnut flavor is very coco-nutty.

Everyone mentioned most of the other ideas I was going to add. I also found coconut milk yogurt and ice cream, which were decent substitutes. If you need something sweet, No Pudge brownies are great.
I ate a lot of pizza with the cheese off and salad on top.

I haven't reintroduced anything yet (DS is only 4 months and we're going to GI for the first time next week), but any time I eat an allergen DS breaks out in really bad eczema all over his face and gets really constipated. He also gets gassy and has mucousy stools.
