how many oz in a bottle do you leave your 4mos. old (give or take) to drink while you are at work?

DS was supplemented with a small amount of formula each day but by 4 months:

BF when he woke

3 7oz bottles through the day

BF before bed


He took in a LOT of ounces per day so I could never keep up just with BM so I had to supplement.

I went back to work when DD was a little past 4 months.

I was sending in 6 ounce bottles. Then at 5 months I upped it to 7 ounce bottles because she was always so pis$ed when she finished her bottles.

Now she will be 6 months on Thursday and since last week, I've been sending in 8 ounce bottles. (she's not on cereal yet)

my ds started daycare at 5 months - he took 5.5-6 oz bottles twice a day with me nursing in the morning, before bed, and a dream feed

i usually pumped about 12 oz a day

remember everyone's miilk is different - my son took an amount similar to what i pumped

at 6 weeks old, loey was eating at 8, 11, and 2. each time he would take about 4-5 ounces.

then he started eating at 8:30 and 12 (and I'd be home for his 3:30) - still around 5 ounces.

Then he started eating 6 ounces.

I built up a small freezer stash and DH would thaw out as needed.

At 4 months old, DS was drinking 4-4.5 oz every 3-4 hours.

thanks for the replies. I nurse before i leave at 6"30 then dd eats every 3hrs thereafter. so sometimes I make it home before her 3rd bottle or sometimes she takes it. But I get nervous that I am not leaving her enough. My pumping is always terrible, meaning I never get a ton. However, at night and weekends when I am home she seems content. I guess I play around with the oz a little. ty again.

my DD and DS never had more than 5.5 oz their whole 1st year! They started at 2 oz when they were born and went up an oz every month until it plateaued at 5-5.5 oz
