Educate me on ICSI
A very dear friend of mine is going through her first IVF cycle. Because she is unexplained they opted for half ICSI. Is there any rhyme or reason as to which follicles they do ICSI with? The biggest ones? The smaller ones? Is it random?
TIA

Re: Educate me on ICSI
We were in the same boat- I had unexplained infertility and went for my 1st IVF. I did half natural and half ICSI after talking to the girls on this board. They just divided the eggs up- no reason why one went one way or the other. Out of my 9 eggs that fertilized- 4 were ICSI and 5 were natural. They all made it to day 5, the best were selected for the transfer which happened to be 1 natural and 1 ICSI. Both took and I just delivered my twins on Aug 1st. Interestingly, none of my other eggs made it to freeze.

Educate me on ICSI
My Dr. explained it to me this way. Since I was unexplained they wanted to do half regular natural and half ICSI. The reason being that they didn't want to look back after and say I wish we would have done ICSI because natural didn't work. This was giving them the best of both worlds. They would see if the eggs fertilized on their own and in case none did they did some with ICSI anyway. On my first cycle there was a complication with an ovary that they couldn't get too and i had so few eggs they did them all ICSI as to try to not lose any.

Re: Educate me on ICSI
I did half ICSI on my first IVF, the only ones that made it were the ICSI ones, so I'm doing full next time around! Good luck.
