Empire came last night... our quote
For:
-our master bedroom & closet -small 2nd bedroom -entryway stairs
is $2700!!
Carpet is nothing fancy (better than our builder grade stuff that's there now though). Includes removal and haul away of old carpet, moving furniture, all taxes.
The stairs are costing a lot b/c of the extra labor, etc.
92 sq yards total he said.
I feel like that's SO high. Wasn't expecting it to be over $2k. We haven't priced around at other places yet, but wdyt?

I have heard empire is really expensive. $2700 seems like a lot for what you need! I would def shop around more.

Re: Empire came last night... our quote
that is like $29 a sq. ft. if I calculated that right with installation & taxes. I'm sure you could find something cheaper. I would check out Lowe's by you and see what they come up with. GL Jess!

Re: Empire came last night... our quote
to much $$, go to carpet depot, or even just try looking at carpet stores. I bet home depot or lowes would be more reasonable.

Re: Empire came last night... our quote
Empire quoted us $8k for engineered hardwood in my old house. We bought it for $1500 from Lumber Liquidators and had someone install from the pennysaver for $800

Home Depot is installing carpet now for the entire house, $139.
we had our den done, it was totally quick and painless. and about $400 carpet and installation (the room is smallish, 12 x 12.)

So is Lowes.
We had our large den, 3 bedrooms, all closets done for about $2400. The did it in 1 day, and my DH said he would completely recommend them again (he was there for the install, I wasn't). But they did do a great job. Haul away of the old carpet was to the curb, but they finished as the garbage men were coming around, so they took it right away.

Re: Empire came last night... our quote
That is ridiculous. We had three bedrooms carpeted for $1300 in 2006. We also had our den (which is a little smaller then all three bedrooms carpeted with 5 stairs for 1300 in 2007. The amount they are quoting your is a ripe off. I would try and find someone else.

Re: Empire came last night... our quote
That is an awful lot...we had our carpets redone about 2 years ago fr a local carpet and flooring place.
We had our:
2 bedrooms and 3 closets, loft area stairs
including tax, installation, removal and padding was about $1100.
I would definitely shop around.

Empire priced our floors and was the highest estimate. At least you know what the ceiling price level is

That's more like it and more around the cost I was hoping for!! I'm going to go around to some local places this week to get quotes. What kind of carpet did you get? Thanks!

Re: Empire came last night... our quote
You HAVE TO haggle with them. We had them in to do 2 large bedrooms, small hallway connecting them. 2 flights of stairs and an entire basement. They quoted $5500....we got it for $3200...same quote as HD gave usa.

Re: Empire came last night... our quote
That is a lot. We like going local when we job out especially in this economy. I'd rather give the money to some hard working guy with a family than some corporation who sucks it all before the workers get any. And most of the time they give a better price.

Re: Empire came last night... our quote
Empire is a rip off
I did the math and they are charging you 3.26 a sq ft If you go with say HD and go with a carpet that is around $2 a sq ft plus tax and $139 install you should comein just under 2K. Of course if you go with something under $2 a sq ft you would keep the cost down even lower.

Re: Empire came last night... our quote
Empire is so overpriced!!! We had them come here for an estimate of my daughter's room and they wanted 700.00. Her room is not big at all. We ended going with another company and got berber rug for 350.00 (everything)

You can soooo talk Empire down. I had a great experience with them. We got our DS room carpeted and she told me 675 I said " your on crack right?" she laughed and asked what did I want to spend. I told her 400 and she came down to 475. They were here 3 days later the crew was great, neat and fast! If I had to do more I would call her again!

I just had them come yesterday for an estimate and they quoted me almost 1K for my 12 by 13 spare bedroom. I read some posts on here and tried to negotiate and got him down to $650 plus tax. I think I could have got him to go lower, but it was getting so uncomfortable haggling...ugh!! I am def. going to shop around..it's just so annoying how they mark it up so high and than you have to haggle...

Re: Empire came last night... our quote
I've heard they are really expensive, we use to have a customer at my work who use to work for them
this is what i was told, not sure how true it is, but lets say you get 2 rooms done. the sales person already knows how much empire will charge him for the carpet and installation, then anything extra is what the salesperson makes so the saleperson always try to make it more expensive so he is making more money out of the deal,
