empty sac at 6 weeks "UPDATE"

I went to the doctor today and we only saw a sac. According to LMP, I should be 6 weeks 1 day.

Do you think there is still hope? I don't know what to do. My doctors seem to think that its over and the pregnancy is not viable.

Update : Well I went to the doctor today and the ultrasound was still showing an empty sac. Doctor said it's an Blighted Ovum. They want to schdule a D&C. I made an appointment with another doctor for a second opinion but I have pretty much lost hope. Chat Icon I just can't believe this is happening to me again.

My LMP was on 3/4 but I'm only 8 w 5 d PG. I assume the doctors know best, but is there any chance you're actually only a few days PG?

Re: empty sac at 6 weeks

6 weeks is still early. My doctor won't even perform a sono until after 7 weeks. Your embryo could have implanted later than you think and you could be 5 weeks, 3 days etc. See what I mean? I would ask for a HCG beta test and wait at least a week for a repeat sono. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

maybe you are just earlier than you think... 6 weeks is very early and if you are actually not 6 weeks yet, then maybe that's why you don't see the hb yet?

I used the CBE fertility montor. So I'm pretty sure I know when I ovulated.

I am schdule to go back on friday. But I think I am going to cancel that appointment and go back in a week.

If your numbers have doubled, how can your doctor say it's not a viable pregnancy? 6w is early and like the pp said, you might not be 6w yet. Don't lose hope - I have a good feeling for you!! And don't cancel your appointment!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

You could still be early. You may have ovulated late or had a late implanter.

Many Prayers for you!

I went at 6w4d and it took a long time for them to find a flicker - the sac looked empty for a good few minutes before they saw something.

I went back at 7w1d and the fetus was easily visible.

Re: empty sac at 6 weeks

I had an empty sac also and freaked out. Now I'm 24 wks.... wait until your next appt or call your Dr. to talk about it. That's what we did and he assured us that it was normal.

I would keep the appt and go back. It may take a few days to show up on the sono. Why would the dr's consider this to not be a viable pregnancy? what did he/she say?

Well she said that she likes to see more by now. She said that there should be at least a yolk sac. She said my blood test came back good and my numbers were double and the sac was growing as it should but that there should be something in the sack by now.

I had an ultrasound at 4 weeks 6 days too and 5 weeks 2 days and they saw the sac both times. She said the sac grow at each sono. She didn't like the fact that they didn't see anything else. She said they will do another sono friday and if they still don't see anything then we will have to discuss our options.

to be honest i wouldnt even think about other options...i feel like shes freaking you out and its not helping you stay positive...i would wait another week and a few days to do another sono and since your numbers are good theres no reason for you to worry

i agree!! i really don't understand all this business with ultrasounds before 8 weeks, repeat beta hcg's, etc. especially if you're not having any vaginal bleeding. Take a deep breath, try to relax, and see her next week. seems to me like a lot of unnecessary worrying. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: empty sac at 6 weeks

i thought i was 6w all i saw was a sac. went back the next week and everything was there. even a heart beat. i guess i was earlier than i thought.
if i had went back that next week and the dr still said the same thing i would have went to a diff dr.
you are getting a lot of sonos for someone so early on. esp if your numbers are doubling.

Re: empty sac at 6 weeks

sending you some prayers....keep going for ultrasound/hcg every week or so...i had a bad experience with this (blighted ovum) and eventually had a d&c, but many others saw their little baby 2 or 3 weeks later.....
