EMT Test (Endometrial Biopsy)

Has anyone done this test prior to an IVF cycle? Going thru IF for so many years, this was never ONCE brought up or suggested to me until I, as usual, did my own research and came across it about two months ago.

I had a consult a few weeks ago w/ Dr. T at SIRM and he mentioned this test is most suggested to be done the month before an IVF cycle as it improves implantation? In the meantime, it also tests your lining to see if your lining is "healthy" enough for implantation. The only downside is if it comes back poor, they put you on BC for three months which is pretty scary; to me anyway.

I mentioned this to a DR at LIIVF and he does them also and would do it if I wanted to. He also mentioned women who have it done the cycle before an IVF have the most success.

You would think this would be the next protocol (besides water sono and HSG) for every woman before an IVF cycle for the best success. Its amazing how you really have to be your own Doctor sometimes thru all of this.

Of course, this test is known to be extremely painful. Is there anything about IF that doesn't hurt us both physically or mentally????

I asked my dr about it and he doesnt think I need it based on my water sono. He said that when they take a piece to biposy the other parts surrounding could be the parts inflammed. He wants to proactive treat me for any inflammation by putting me on Cipro and pregnisone instead for next round of IVF. He said thats what they would put you on anyway. So I'm not getting that done as of now- just the HSG on Friday.

There is good data to show that endometrial trauma like the biopsy you're talking about improves implantation rates. In fact, they do the "scratch biopsy" a lot with donor egg cycles even when there's no evidence of a lining problem because those cycles are so $$$ (high stakes) and they want to take every measure that stands to improve the outcome.

Are you doing the e-tegrity test? I am doing that in a few weeks prior to FET should we have CCS normal embryos to transfer. If the test comes back negative (meaning that things are out of whack) then, yeah, it takes 3 months to shut down and regrow the lining. But hey, better that than go through the whole cycle and lose perfectly good embryos because of a lining/luteal issue. At least that's how I see it: a win-win.

The disadvantage is, of course, the pain. It does hurt, but only for like 5 seconds. It'll be okay

I am also doing this before IVF to check my lining. RE#2 said it's not necessary but RE#1 said yes, so I am aiming for that, esp being that I have implantation issues. It does hurt though :/ worried ab that!

I have done 2 cycles w 2 different REs. Always had a biopsy before the cycle started and we are unexplained.

Yup, the healing of the lining is supposed to help with implantation. There are lots of studies backing this up.

Take 3 Advil 45 minutes prior - you'll be ok!!!

I had done through rsofny and it was very painful. I know someone it worked on for two pregnancies. It did not work for me and I would never do it again because of the discomfort. I had to give it a shot.

See now your RE number one is my current RE and he feels at this point I don't need it. I'm scared of that one. I had a biopsy done before and it hurt. I saw stars!! Not sure if it's similar to this one though. Can they put you out for that

Actually, yes, they can put you out for it and they have done this for some patients. (I did ask). Most women don't though. I guess because you are still responsible for the cost of Anesthesia. I know the pain is short lived; but I'm thinking Anesthesia is still worth it.

Does the RE do the biopsy or you have to go somewhere else for it?

RE did it for me at the office.

I think you are expecting it to be way worse than it is. I don't have a high tolerance for pain and it really wasn't bad with a few Advil.

Can the doctor call in a sedative to calm you down before?
