Epidural effects? TMI
I had my second DD 13 days ago after a 4 day failed induction and eventual c-section. I got an epidural on Saturday and she was eventually born on Tuesday so I had the epi for 3 days. TMI but my ass is numb still! Not completely but (TMI) along my butt crack. It's so frustrating! Did anyone else have a lasting effect from the epidural and if so, how long did it last?
Thanks.

Re: Epidural effects? TMI
Yes, I definitely had spots of numbness for at least a few months afterwards on various small locations across my back, more specifically my upper back near my shoulder blades.
Due to my blood pressure dropping dramatically, which precluded me from walking, which prolonged catheter and epidural removal, I had it in me for about 48 hours.

OMG the whole time I had the epi, I was sooo itchy. There were very few spots that DH could scratch but I told him to scratch like he was trying to rip my skin off. I ended up with claw marks lol but it was so worth it.

Re: Epidural effects? TMI
With both of my deliveries, I had numbness on the outer part of my thigh, just above the knee. Hadn't considered it, but makes sense that it could be an after-effect of the eli. For me, it lasted several months with the first, and is now slowly going away after my second (8 weeks today).

I did not have the numbness but I had the above - my back was very itchy.
I made the anesthesiologist who came in the following morning to check on me remove the epidural that instant. I gave birth via CS on a Monday at 2:30pm. The following morning, Tuesday at 8am is when the doc came to 'check' on me. I was like GET this THING out of me. He's like but the pain. I said, I'll deal with the pain, I was up and down all night not able to sleep because of this itchy back from this thing. And I had a newborn who slept like ten hours the first night - straight - without a peep!!! I'm like oh helllll no get this thing out of me. He was like, alriiiiight all worried about the pain. I took nothing but Motrin following that - nothing prescription or too strong. I was FINE. And felt 100% better the second I took that out.
Now I'm wondering had I left it in if I would have had lasting numbness.
I think because I had it taken out so quickly that helped a lot. Yes I had to endure pain but to me, I have a high tolerance, I can $uck that up more than lasting, nagging discomfort.

After my 1st I didn'the but my 2nd I had the same numbness on my right thigh. It is getting better and it has been 4 months. Now it's only a small spot.

Re: Epidural effects? TMI
I was numb after #2 for almost 24 hours. Not itchy thank god! The nurses kept telling me to get up to pee and I kept saying I didn't have to (and I couldn't).

Re: Epidural effects? TMI
I also had a c section after a failed induction. I don't have any effects from the epi but like another poster said, I am still numb in the c section area. My dr. said it could take 6 months for the feeling to return, but my cousin who had a c section over 3 years ago said she is still numb!
