Episiotomy question...
So... I delivered on April 9th, and the dr had to do an episiotomy to suction out the baby as her heartrate dropped... turned out the cord was around her neck....
Anyway, my question is for those who may have had an episiotomy... how long did it take to feel better? I have intense pressure down below when I walk too long or stand too long... and when I sit on the toilet, its REALLY painfully sore...
Is this a problem? Do I need to call the dr? Its been a week... and it wasnt this bad a few days ago!!! Any advice would be wonderful!
TIA

Re: Episiotomy question...
It took a good 2.5 weeks to feel ok! It still felt very weird whenever I'd push to pee for at least a month!

Re: Episiotomy question...
It took a few weeks to feel better (and I tore & did not have the episiotomy but assume it isn't much different).
It will get better! Lidocaine spray was my BEST friend for 2 weeks!

Re: Episiotomy question...
It gets better....but it takes a little while. I think it was about a month before I felt normal again "down there". But it was only really bad immediately after the delivery. The hospital gave me an egg crate type foam thing to sit on to help with the pain....do you have anything like that to sit on?

Re: Episiotomy question...
I recall being on the much slower end of the healing spectrum.... for me, it took about 3 weeks to be able to endure a 30 min carride, and it literally took months to clear0up the bathroom issues.
However, I believe a good portion of that was due to internal bruising of my GI tract that occured during labor... not due to the epi/tearing.
every day it will get a little better....

Re: Episiotomy question...
It took a few weeks for it not to hurt anymore- and months before it felt normal.
The OB who delivered DD did a horrible job at stitching me up, which I feel contributed to the prolonged pain.

Re: Episiotomy question...
I agree a few weeks of healing. For me, the stitches were probably the worst part of the whole labor experience.
You do have a spritz bottle or something when you're going to the bathroom right? Also the sitz bath helped tremendously with the healing.
While I do remember the pressure while walking & the fear of blowing a stitch when I cough, if you're unsure about it, I would call the doctor. Don't wait for the 6 week check up. That's what she/he's there for.

Re: Episiotomy question...
For me it wasn't painful like to sit but it took a very long time maybe like 3 months to totally heal, the stiches weren't healing right.

Re: Episiotomy question...
I've had 2 and they healed fine - no problems but with my last birth the doctor didn't follow the scar and let the baby rip me. THAT HURT LIKE A MO FO!!!! That being said,....the healing process was a lot different. However, here I am 2 weeks after and I feel fine down there. I'm just afraid to look at it amongst other things when the time comes. DH said he was freaking out when he saw the baby tearing me and the doctor allowing it..but by that time it was too late.
Sorry for TMI.

SITZ baths were my relief and I would do them everytime DD took a nap, every second Id get. I also used the spray and some kind of ointment

Re: Episiotomy question...
It definitely takes a while to feel normal. You are probably experiencing tightening as healing is occurring. As PP suggested...use the sitz bath, peri bottle and numbing spray.

Re: Episiotomy question...
For me it took a week to feel remotely ok, then another week to feel normal again. It still hurt to sit for a while longer, but that could've been hemorroids too.

Re: Episiotomy question...
i don't know whether it was the episiotomy, or just the fact of giving birth, that hurt for about 1.5 weeks. after that, i was pretty much fine. a little sore, but not in pain.
my episiotomy was very "clean" and healed beautifully according to my doc. he didn't let me tear at all on my own, and i think that's why i healed so well.
don't worry, you will feel better soon! everyone heals at different rates

Re: Episiotomy question...
Its about 2 weeks to feel ok from an episiotomy I used tucks and Dermoplast numbing spray and it helped. I felt the pressure for some time after when I need to have a bowel movement
