Re: Ever skip out on a check?
While I have often wanted to because of the slow wait, I usually just stand with my jacket on to signal for them to bring me the check. Or I have found the manager to get our waiter/waitress.

Re: Ever skip out on a check?
Never!!!
I had friends who did that all the time. They'd order a lot fo stuff they couldnlt afford and then come up witha scheme to skip out. Inevitably me or one of our other friends would end up paying for them. I would just never do that. I hate eating out in groups in general, because there is ALWAYS someone who doesn't pay or underpays and I end up paying for 3 dinners.
If I am waiting a long time for the check, sometimes I ave said "ugh, we should just leave" but Id sooner get up and look for a manager or anyone to give us the check.
ETA The skipping the check people were also shoplifters. They felt it was payback to the stores for high prices...umm I think they have it the other way around. I haven't seen these friends in a few years. Hopefully they've grown up some.

Re: Ever skip out on a check?
I have never eaten without paying for my meal...i have however left 2 pennies as a tip once...because the server took our order...that was it....when we got our food it was cold, we never got our drinks, although we asked over and over again, and people just kept telling us "I'll get your Server" We looked at the menu to figure out what our bill would be...and only left 2 pennies as a tip.

Re: Ever skip out on a check?
I did once. The waitress gave us the wrong bill. It had items on it that we didn't order. She insisted that was just the way things got "coded"...
We never signed the credit card receipt and then rejected on the charge on the card once it went through.

I would never. It its totally stealing. I am shocked at how many people have said plenty of times.
Same here. Seriously, I am absolutely floored at the amount of people who say they do it all the time. It is stealing, plain and simple. I totally agree that it's completely frustrating to wait forever to get the bill, but get up and get the manager - that's what I did. Then I left a crappy tip - crappy service...crappy tip. But I would NEVER not pay, it's stealing and more than likely the server will have to pay for your meal!!

Re: Ever skip out on a check?
I can't believe the poll results for this poll! I have never done this and much less ever even thought of doing this. Yes, once in the blue moon we can't find the waitress, but someone from our party will go and look for someone to ask them for a check.
Sorry i find this to be so wrong, not only are you stealing from the establishment who provided you with a good and service, but you are also not tipping a waiter/waitress who is probably working hard to get by in life.
I think even if i did this is error, i would go back the next day and try and pay them for the meal.

Re: Ever skip out on a check?
I have never done it, because I use to be a waitress. I too am shocked by the poll and wonder if maybe people answered for when they were younger and use to do it. I would hope that is the case.

My sister and I did this at Bennigens like 10 years (or more) ago. We waited like 45 minutes for the girl to come with the check and she never did so we left!
I nver paid for the veggie burger at the Copper Door the night we went out
Are you serious???
BTW we went there on Thursday again - like 25 people from my job. I was still drunk on Friday.
I realized it after we left. I felt bad, but not bad enough to go back. I heard the Copper Door was fun last week. I played hookey from work that day and didn;t feel like coming back to the city.

Re: Ever skip out on a check?
I'm surprised by the number too. Is it intentional "dine and dash", or was it that you didn't want to wait a long time?

Exactly! I used to waitress and I had one table walk out without paying once. It came right out of my check. Luckily the person had only gotten breakfast and their bill wasn't for that much. You're not screwing the restaurant when you do this, you're screwing the waiter/waitress. I can see tipping poorly or not not tipping at all if the waiter/waitress is bad, but not paying at all is stealing.
