Everything happens for a reason....
Do you believe it? Or are you sick and tired of the saying?

Re: Everything happens for a reason....
I tend to hate this saying especially when it was said to me after a pretty tragic fire in my parents house (umm this happened for WHAT reason exactly?).
That being said, there have been plenty of times where I've reflected on a certain event and thought that the saying is pretty spot on.
I guess it depends on the context for me and I can go either way

I do believe it but I also believe that bad things happen to good people. It is tough to reconcile the two beliefs.

Re: Everything happens for a reason....
I don't buy it. Some things have no reason IMO. It's just the way life is, bad and good things happen, no rhyme or reason.

Re: Everything happens for a reason....
Yeah, things always happen for a REASON... but I believe a person is hit by a car not becuase of some fate or spiritual reason... it happened becuase the driver is drunk, on prescription meds, or distracted.
no spirituality or faith in my world view... just cold pragmatism...

I 100% believe this saying. Sometimes you may not see the reason for years and years...but I believe there always is one.

I do believe it. And I also believe that there are blessings in disguise. Sometimes we do not see a reason for it right off the bat, but in the end something good may come of it.

Re: Everything happens for a reason....
For those who believe it...can I ask?
What could be the reason a small child could struggle with cancer so many years and/or pass away? Or the reason behind all the suffering of those who were hit with that cyclone in Myanmar? Or the victims of the quake in China?
These are just a few examples of a travesty, out of many in the world. I find it hard to believe that some things have a "good" reason behind them. I just have seen too many injustices in my life to believe ALL things happen for a reason. Some may, but not all IMO.
I can't imagine any reason other than just life can be cruel and harsh, in some instances.

Re: Everything happens for a reason....
I believe in Karma. As far as EVERYTHING happening for a reason, not so much...
Being that DH and I are TTC, every month that it doesn't happen someone says this to me, so yeah, I'm a little tired of hearing it.

Re: Everything happens for a reason....
I think many times, it later becomes clear how things worked out. sometimes its never clear but I do believe it. I would never say it to someone though who just went through something tragic or upsetting nor do I think it's for me to explain either, I certainly don't have all the answers. But I can see places in my life that something seemingly horrid happened and yet in hindsight, it was for a reason. or something good that didn't work out and again, only later was it apparent that it was for the best. But there are other situations that remain unexplained, i still believe it though.

Re: Everything happens for a reason....
I'm not sure.
For the most part, I believe we can make our own destiny and then the rest is pure science.
I think things happen & we adjust our expectations to explain painful situations.
But there are situations like coincidences where I feel forces are at work.

Re: Everything happens for a reason....
Yes..I do now.
I was going through a terrible time the past few years, and one of the reasons was bc of infertility and the 2nd reason was bc I had 2 crappy jobs in a row.
Fast forward to now, I found an awesome job - which just happens to be around the corner from my RE's office AND my boss went through IF treatments herself. She even said to me, it must have been meant to be that you landed here - so I feel like I had to go through all that crap to get to where I am now!

Re: Everything happens for a reason....
not me, but I do think that you can make lemonade out of lemons.
when you are affected by something you have a choice (free will) - to sit down and take it or get up and make the situation better.
ETA: I prefer the saying: when one door closes, there was another door that was open, but you just didn't see it.

Re: Everything happens for a reason....
I believe it.. I dont know the answers to any horrible acts of nature or accidents.. But I do know we are ALL just passing threw here.. Some longer than others.. Some exit peacefully some with disaster... This is a journey IMO and all of the pieces fall into place in the end.. Its just how I see it.. Good Bad or indifferent.. The truth will always reveal itself or the "reason" we just may never figure it out. Its not always black and white..

I think in every situation.. Somewhere someone can make sense if it.. Just like you did here!! Not all of us and never right away.. But it can always be done.. That making sense is usually only for that person thats making it!! Does that make sense??

Re: Everything happens for a reason....
If it's true...then someone explain our last year to me....
Mom has cancer My baby died DH's GM is seriously ill Family dog died I have IF and that doesn't even count the small insignificant stuff...
I've always tried to be a good person. I give blood, I donate to causes, I work for charities. What is the reasoning?
I don't believe it....things happen and that's all there is to it. There's no rhyme or reason to it.
