I live by this completely and faithfully. 1000%

No matter what.

Me too!! We might not understand the reason at this very moment, but that doesn't mean theres no meaning behind something.

I do believe it. Sometimes it is the only thought or belief that gets me through...

I've never read the secret, but i heard this teaches you to always think positively even when things are bad and things will naturally get better. Anyone ever read it?

I've never read it, but I don't believe if you think positively things will naturally get better. Trust me when I say I've tried it and it doesn't work (at least for me)

I also don't buy into the everything happens for a reason thing either.

Re: Everything happens for a reason....

I used to live by that and "whatever doesn't kill you makes your stronger". Now I feel like it's all BS. Maybe I will feel differently in a few years when all the bad that is going on right now with my family is gone.. but I don't right now. I just don't. Chat Icon

I can say that I think most things happen for a reason.

Re: Everything happens for a reason....

i like to believe it...once the "reason" is determined....

however in the midst of a crisis, i never see a positive or reason for it at the time

I do believe that everything happens for a reason, even if we don't know what that reason is.

If it's true...then someone explain our last year to me....

Mom has cancer
My baby died
DH's GM is seriously ill
Family dog died
I have IF
and that doesn't even count the small insignificant stuff...

I've always tried to be a good person. I give blood, I donate to causes, I work for charities.
What is the reasoning?

I don't believe it....things happen and that's all there is to it.
There's no rhyme or reason to it.

Re: Everything happens for a reason....

Don't believe it.

I think when people are looking for consolation, or reasoning, or meaning in bad situations, this idea brings them comfort. That because something bad happened, something good will in turn happen later.

I think if you search for meaning long enough, or these connections, you will convince yourself that you found it. Whether it's true or not.

My husband and I met as a direct result of someone else's death. A girl who was young and innocent, and did not deserve it. Was the reason she died to pave the way for my pain and suffering, then to meet my husband? Sorry, I just don't believe it.

I'd rather make my own destiny. Chat Icon

I don't buy it. Some things have no reason IMO. It's just the way life is, bad and good things happen, no rhyme or reason.

i believe people say this to make themselves feel better about unfortunate situations. i do not think there is a big "plan" for all of us - life happens as it happens.

Re: Everything happens for a reason....

Well...literally, there are "reasons" that things happen. Literal causes & such. But to tell some people that everything happens for a reason as if to incorporate their tragedies into some master, ordered plan/meritocracy, can be downright cruel. If life goes swimmingly, it's nice to think you've "earned" some fabilous destiny. Once tragedy strrikes, though, it can be taken as cruel.

Re: Everything happens for a reason....

I believe this wholeheartedly....

But this comes from someone with a deep faith in God. I believe God has a plan for us all that was written before we were born. He knows all that will happen to us, good and bad. I think he gives us the freewill to make the decisions that will affect what happens in our lives. For those things that we don't plan or decide on, He has decided that for us, for reasons we'll never know.

Even though there are things like illness, death and other struggles, i believe that even though it can be hard as hell, it all happens because it is God's plan, not ours.

Re: Everything happens for a reason....

I've had too many crappy things happen to me, so yes, I do believe it, even if I force myself to just to feel better!!
