Exercise question

I just took my first ever Zumba class last night - actually it was Zumba Toning and it involved light weights.

Anyway, sure enough I am sore in places I didn't know could get sore, but I feel good.

I am a FTWM and get home around 7, I than have to put the baby to sleep - which can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. So I don't have time to get to the gym on a regular basis. I can't go in the mornings because DH leaves at 5:30 on most mornings, no one to watch the baby.

I need to get some exercise into my daily routine because my body won't lose weight just from eating right - I know this from experience. It needs a metabolism boost.

Not sure how many nights I can commit to going, since this is one of the latest classes they have. There is another late class on Friday - so that is my other option. Weekends are so busy for me just catching up with everything I can't get done during the week, so those days are out as well.

Could I feasibly loose weight just taking Zumba once a week for an hour or am I kidding myself.

Re: Exercise question

If you can only fit in going to the class once a week, maybe you could exercise at home a couple other times during the week to supplement?

ETA: It sounds like you have your hands full right now! You should be proud of yourself for making it to the gym once a week!

Re: Exercise question

I think you need more then one hour of exercise a week. Have you considered getting some hand weights and working out at home a couple of evenings a week. You could also invest in a couple of workout DVD's like the 30 minute shred by Jillian Michaels. You can also boost your metabolism by changing your eating patterns. Eating six small meals a day will help as will carbohydrate cycling.

Re: Exercise question

Right now I go to Zumba 3 times a week. On Thurs nights and Sat mornings I bring both girls with me and they go to the gym daycare. Sun mornings they stay home with DH.

Does your gym have a daycare that you can bring your DS?

If not I would def look into getting videos to do at home. I've done Biggest Loser Cardio Max, Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shread, and Jillian Michaels Yoga. I love them.

I also did Couch to 5K for a couple of months. After DDs were in bed I would put on my running clothes and go. It was only 25 mins and then I'd come home and clean up and then jump in the shower.

Good job for starting something!!!!

Re: Exercise question

if you eat healthy in conjunction with the 1 hour zumba, you probably could lose weight. Can you also add in some sit-ups and pushups?

I was going to suggest Jillian Michael's 30 day shred also. It's only 30 minutes, so you might be able to fit it in 1-2 nights a week in addition to your zumba class.

Re: Exercise question

Honestly, you can lose weight without any exercise at all- as long as you follow a healthy diet. However, I do think its a good idea to get in a couple more days of exercise (just for overall health purposes!)

Re: Exercise question

Maybe you can work out in am before baby gets up or you have to go to work.
I do mag rack videos with hand weights, floor exercises and elliptical ALL @ HOME. I was laid off and couldn't afford my gym anymore so I adapted to an at home work out. I also try to jog on weekends when my B/F is home.
Not only is exercise so important for overall health but also for your mind. Time for yourself to unwind esp since your working full-time. Hope your able to balanceChat Icon

Re: Exercise question

If you can do the Zumba once a week and then throw in a few workouts at home you can definitely lose weight. Grab a Jillian Michaels DVD, they are under 30 minutes and a great full body workout. Also, try to get some workouts in on the weekend. I know you said you can't during the week because DH goes to work early. So I would make it a point of getting workouts in on Sat and Sun.
