Experience with Tying of Tubes

Dh and I only want two kids. I am seriously considering to get my tubes tied. Anyone have any experience with this? Can you give me some feedbacks and also would you recommend doing this? TIA!

I had the Essure procedure done....

Like Lori, I couldnt have it done at delivery b/c I gave birth in a Catholic Hospital...actually same hospital as Lori and the same doctor...Chat Icon

I had the procedure done, in office, several months later. Virtually no down time...

The one thing with the Essure procedure is that you have to wait a bit for it to become effective. It takes 3-6 months.

Re: Experience with Tying of Tubes

i just had my tubes severed and clamped in July, during my C section with DD.

i didnt just get them tied, bc you can still get pregnant if the clamping comes undone. yes your tubes can also adhere back together but its a little harder.

i have had no problems... my periods (TMI) are a little heavier, but they last 3 days instead of my avg 6.

my Dr did it while i was still open from my C

Re: Experience with Tying of Tubes

My mom had it done right after my brother was delivered. They'd had 4 kids in 4 1/2 years, so they were done. Chat Icon
I think she was only like 27 or 28 years old, so they almost didn't do it because she was so young...but she insisted!!

I thought it was 100% though....that it was the male procedure that wasn't 100%.

If I was done having kids I would ask my DH to have a vasectomy rather than me having my tubes tied. It's a much simpler procedure and reversible in case you ever change your mind. Chat Icon

Re: Experience with Tying of Tubes

Hey,

well we were in the same situation and yes I did it with Emma's section. As for doing it it was a great choice even though there is a 1% chance that you can have a baby. The recovery is much harder or it was for me but the dr. said it would be a little harder but you get threw it!! I say go for it if you are sure!!

Both of my SIL's had it done while they were open during their C sections. Both have been perfectly successful. In case you don't go in this direction I have the name of a GREAT Dr that did DH's vasectomy--all laser, no stitches and hardly any pain Chat Icon

Re: Experience with Tying of Tubes

when we make a decision Scott will go. It is a much easier procedure than for a women.
You go thru pregnancy and birth so the guy can go thru a vasectomy very easily.

Gina, this is another option for us as well. So, I will let you know. Also, I have some questions for you as well about this procedure. You and I will talk more about it.

Re: Experience with Tying of Tubes

I wanted to do it after my last one. i delivered vaginally in a catholic hospital so it wasnt an option, however if i were having a c-section they would have given me the option to go to southside & deliver there & have it done at the same time. If i wanted to still do it, i had to have the surgery 6wks post pardum. i knew if i had 6wks to think about it & experience life with a newborn all over again, id change my mind. i opted for the mirena instead. i didnt want to have surgery with a newborn + two other kids, i had just recovered from pregnancy and giving birth.

Good Luck with that, we went for the consultation had the date all set and my DH chickened out at the last minute.Chat Icon I think he was hoping we would have another baby but I done!
I actually want to find out more about that procedure that Heather had done the Essure. I have read a little bit about it and think it is the way I want to go.
