Re: Family Party Tonight... A little upset
I just remind myself that it is pretty healthy if he does not always cling to me. I think that when other people are present, my son goes to them because he can be with me anytime (I work but he still sees me and DH more than anyone else). There are enough times when he does want me even in a room full of people so it evens out over time.

Totally normal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Similar situation and I don't dislike my mom! This happened to me when I went to pick DS up from my mom's (she watches him 2-3 days a week). I went to take him home and he kept leaning over to get back into my Mom's arms. I totally love my mom and I love that he loves her but...I cried the whole way home! Then I started feeling guilty that I shouldn't be working, I should be spending more time with DS...on and on and on! Knife in the chest!
I'm a SAHM and DS wants nothing to do with me when my mom is around. At first, I was upset, but I think it's just because she's a new face after seeing mine all day. It's the same as him going nutso when Daddy gets home from work...I don't get that kind of reaction because he sees me all day lol.
Now, it's a welcome relief because it gives me a break...and I know deep down, I'm still #1 Don't worry, you are too.

Re: Family Party Tonight... A little upset
My DD is the opposite, she just wants my mom sometimes. I think it upsets my MIL (when she is around), but she is just a baby and I hope she understands that.
I think your MIL is wrong to be happy about it, though.

DS does this with my mom, and I'm ok with that, I actually find it really cute.. However if it were MIL, I would HATE every moment of it! But then again MIL has seen DS twice in the last 7 months

Re: Family Party Tonight... A little upset
Cailen used to do that when he was younger with daddy! There was a time when he was around 10 months old where he never wanted me. Just daddy. He even called me "Dada" until he was 15 mts old!!!!
I remember feeling a little sad about it, but I knew he loved me.
They explore different relationships with people, but at the end of the day, they always want their mommies!!!

My DD ADORES my father..her "Nonno" When he is around..NO ONE matters to her. If my father isn't around..then all she wants is her Nonna (my mother). If we are with my inlaws all she wants is her uncle (my BIL). See where I'm going????
Don't feel bad..your DD will always LOVE her mommy the most..but it is very normal for kids to favor "someone" in the family.
Do you think it hurts you more because you have a history with your MIL? Let her sit their with a grin on her face because YOU are the last person DD see's at night and YOU are the first person she see's in the morning
ETA: DD walks around my house yelling "NONNO..NONNA" and looking in every room for them during the day. Also..if she is crying,,she whimpers "Noooooonnnoo" and sometimes I have to call him just to make her stop yelling out for him.
Awww that is so sweet. Your parents must really treasure that-what a wonderful gift for them

Re: Family Party Tonight... A little upset
Yes it's normal. DD is 4 & everytime we leave my parents' house she has a meltdown. She says she can't leave becasue she loves Grandma too much, but she leaps into the car as soon as I say we're going to Grandma's so missing me isn't an issue. She also begs to sleep over there once a week at least & cries when I say no.
They love their grandparents & don't see them as often as mommy 7 daddy so it's exciting. I guaratee your DD loves you the most anyway!
