FB rant- unwanted friend requests.

First, let me put it out there-I'm overweight. That being said, this week alone I've had friend requests from 3 diet coaches. Chat Icon Chat Icon I must look like a friggin whale! Can't help but to find it insulting because we have many mutual friends in common. The first one who requested me is someone who is also involved in Girl Scouts to some extent, so I didn't think anything of it when she requested me as a friend. Then comes the diet coaching speech.
I'm happy for them that they were able to find a successful weight loss program for themselves and that they are so inspired that they want to help others. But to blind request someone because they look fat in their pictures? I just think it's rude. Am I being too sensitive?

If the first one I accepted, I actually considered it and I had a short conference call with her to see what this diet plan was all about. It wasn't my style and I wasn't interested. This person literally sends me a PM every day . Chat Icon

You’re not being sensitive at all. This is how multi-level marketing works. Preying on insecurities to get people to become a part of their downline. If no thank you doesn’t work, then block them.

Re: FB rant- unwanted friend requests.

I believe there is a setting that you can use that allows you not to get friend requests.

It is rude, btw.

I recently requested an old co-worker. It had been years since we talked. We caught up a bit, but then she told me about her MLM. It’s something to do with anti-aging products. I don’t believe in that stuff at all. Plus all her before and afters had different lighting. I was kind of annoyed that she went right into her MLM.

Totally rude and these “coaches” are not certified to do anything. Block and report as spam.

Re: FB rant- unwanted friend requests.

I get them all the time as well. I think it’s just f you are mutual friends or in a Fb group with them, they Request every single person in the group in hopes to get some new clients. Even if it’s not me, I may know someone who was just talking about a specific diet and may refer them.

I wouldn’t take it personally. This is how they get their business.

I was in a fibromyalgia group. And this one woman, who had similar issues as me friend requested me. I accepted because I felt like we clicked. Well, after a few days she started with the “how these supplements have changed me life” BS. I unfriended and moved on. She prob doesn’t even have Fibro.

Re: FB rant- unwanted friend requests.

So funny - I have a friend from high school that is a "coach." she was targeting friends of mine left and right but never said anything to me. At the time I was very thin and a I worked out all the time. So my friends who she did target were all like oh it's because we're fat and you're thin! We all laughed about it. Then I put on 10 lbs and posted a couple non flattering pics I guess and immediately she contacted me. I thought it was funny and my friends and I laughed again about how I was fat enough now to get the look but yeah it's so rude. I did end up signing up for beachbody. I still haven't lost the weight long term - I kind of yo yo diet. Whatever, I find the coach posts so annoying as if the only way you can have a happy life is if you are obsessed with eating clean and working out like a maniac. If you like that lifestyle fine but for right now I'll take a few extra lbs and enjoy my pinot grigio and Doritos. If you have balls call them out on it and say what they are doing is disgraceful.

I hate that. I was once in this FB group for fashion and beauty tips. This one lady tried recruiting me for her team. She sold hair products. She sent me a message saying how great my hair looked in my profile picture when it was a picture of the ocean....

Re: FB rant- unwanted friend requests.

Don't feel bad. It's not because of your weight. I get them too and I am not overweight. These leeches friend as many people as possible, hoping you will comment on one of their posts so now all YOUR friends will see it. Or that you will tell someone else about their bull shit magic formula.
Honestly it's disgraceful that these pyramid schemes allow these shills to call themselves coaches just because they paid the 300 bucks to buy into a MLM scheme

FB rant- unwanted friend requests.

It’s definitely not your weight. I’m in a lot of fitness groups and always get friend requests for MLM stuff. Some of it is for running coaching - I run a 20 minute 5K, I don’t need your coaching or they are for diet plans and I’m in good shape. It’s a scam to hopefully lure some people in to get money. That’s all it is.

I got one in a networking group I am in. I told her that I was not interested in any product she has to sell. She kept going and then told the group admin I was harassing her.

But everyday it is a different MLM and I can't take it.

Re: FB rant- unwanted friend requests.

I have a few fb friends who are involved in "coaching"

They post about their program but have never been obnoxious or relentless about contacting me.

I have a friend that has started selling hair products and O M G so so so so annoying! All day long its post about her hair and how it "changed my life". I also hate the multiple "I don't understand why anyone would NOT want to sell this and make money" posts.

A lot of coaches and skin care salespeople friend anyone they vaguely know. I wouldn’t say it’s because of your weight - they are just trying to expand the number of people they reach for their business.

Chiming in about the coaching crap. I've had to hide real life friends from my newsfeed because all they post now is before/after pics and stuff about this diet.
