Feeding cereal to infant question...
DD is just starting cereal. She's 4 months and I started two days ago - just very little cereal (mostly milk), so it's hard to feed her from a spoon, but even the little bit that I get in her mouth gets spit out or just dribbles out.
At one point she gagged and I thought that she didn't like the cereal, but then I put it in a bottle and she drank it so fast. So I guess it's the spoon she didn't like.
But how, and when did your dc start eating from a spoon?
Thanks!
I don't remember having this problem with DS, but then I think he was 5 mths when we started.

Re: Feeding cereal to infant question...
I was told you can't feed with a spoon until they don't have a tongue reflex anymore. I think you are supposed to give runny cereal milk, which sounds like your DC is taking.
DS is only 3 months old. I plan to give him runny cereal milk at 4 months and probably move on to food from a spoon at around 5-6 months.

Re: Feeding cereal to infant question...
We also started cereal at 4 months. The first time I gave it to her it was really runny but like you said it really didn't get in her mouth. I started to make it a little thicker and it was definitely better. I think it was close to 5 months when she actually started to open her mouth and take it from the spoon. The gagging is a normal reflex, it has nothing to do with the spoon. Just keep trying, this is how they learn.

Around 4 months. One of my sons spit it out and used his tongue to spit most fo it out, the other took to it right away..totally normal-just keep trying
