Feeling Age Related Woes

I'm turning 34 next month. Got my degrees, then a career. Bought a house. Then found DH. We married in June 08 and are TTC this year. I'm feeling nervous that my age will limit our chances. Can anyone share successes or support stories of women who were in this age bracket? I don't like when the doctor's tell me that I'm approaching the "high risk" age. Ugh....

Re: Feeling Age Related Woes

I just turned 30, but i know quite a few pple who have had babies past 34.

My coworker turned 36 this past nov and had her baby nov 1st. She actually had a bit of a challenge b/c her tubes were blocked. one tube they couldnt fix, but the other was fixable and a few months later she conceived on her own!

DH's friend's wife is going on 37 this year and having her 2nd. she had the first at 35. No medical help needed.

So it does happen...i think if you were pushing 37, 38 i would start to worry but 34 is still young.

I can't talk for myself... but I can say that my mother was 37 when she got pregnant with my youngest brother... and that was 14 years ago... So with all the improvements in medical technology, I say it's definitely a possibility!!!

GOOD LUCK!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

My mom had her last baby at 36 (22 years ago), my neighbor had twins at 35, and my friend had twins at 39. This was all without medical assistance. It can and WILL happen for you!

My brother's wife had their first baby at 38 or 39 - they did not require any medical intervention and weren't even trying all that long. I'm 10 years her junior and seem to be having more trouble. You just never know.

my step sister got pg. with her first at 36, and had her second at 38. No problems.

My cousin just gave birth last week to her first at 38. No problem.

My best friend had her first at 35, and her second at 37, just last week.

My 26 year old cousin has been trying unsuccessfully for 2 years. My sister in law is 27, and they have been trying for over a year. SHe visited an RE and found that her egg quality is terrible. At 27.

A lot if it is not just age, but genetics and your own human growth hormone.

I'm also 35 and we are trying for #1. Sometimes I wish I were younger, but not really. I have my masters, an awesome career that I love, we are financially stable......it just makes things better, IMO.

Re: Feeling Age Related Woes

I got PG with my DS when I was 34. It took 3 cycles to get PG. I am currently 36, trying for # 2.

Please don't let it stress you out, the process of TTC can be stressful enough as it is. There are many women having babies in their 30s. (My SIL thought that she was old having her DS at 39/40- and her Dr said that he was treating many women above 40 and that she wasn't old at all to be having a baby.)

If you haven't purchased it yet, you should also read TTOYF (Taking Charge of Your Fertility). I learned so much about my cycle from that book.

I am 38 and going TTC for my first. I was "concerned" with my age at first, but I want a baby and I can't turm back time. This is they way the plan was laid out for me. So far I am on my 3rd cycle and each one brings me more knowledge.

I had my baby last March - I just turned 34 years old. Don't let doctor's scare you right away. I would try to conceive naturally on your own for 6 months and then if you do not get pregnant, I would see an RE (which I think they recommend if you are 35 or over and TTC). GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!! Re: Feeling Age Related Woes

I AM 34 and in NO way feel I'm old.

I am pg with DC#2 and where "they" say I'm approaching the dreaded 35 #...I don't feel it has any relevance to anything.

I will be 35 when #2 is born.

Re: Feeling Age Related Woes

going to be 36 & having a baby next week. Had my first at 34. Admittedly it took me a long time to get PG, but it was because I was leading a very unhealthy lifestyle & had some health issues to sort out, not b/c of my age. I got PG on the first try this time.

There are 2 Drs in m OB practice. One of them reminds me everytime I see him that b/c of my age I am "a risk." My regular OB laughs at him and tells him too get a grip that I just had a baby less than 2 years ago. Chat Icon

Your story sounds very similar to mine. I started TTC at 32 (almost 33) and I am now pg at 34. I did need fertility treatments to get PG but don't take my case as the norm. My best advice is to seek medical help if you are not pg within 6 months. Don't be scared and know there is help out there in the event that it is harder for you to get PG. Best of luck!

Re: Feeling Age Related Woes

I just turned 34 and got my BFP today. It took me a little longer then it did with DS. DS was first month off BC at age 3, this time around I got PG 2nd month trying, but had a mc at 5 wks, that was i OCT. Over the last 4 mos we have been trying, it has been a rough road, but I still think it happened relatively quick. Especially since 1 of those mos we only BD'd 1 time and another month we only BD twice. Try not to worry about your age, the more worrying you do the more stressed you will be and stress and TTC are like oil and water. Good Luck to you!!!
