Re: Finding out the sex of baby
I definitely do NOT think the "surprise" of meeting my daughter was ruined by already knowing that I was having a girl. I mean, if someone doesn't want to know, I think that's great, but for me, I really needed to know. It bothered me SO much to be calling my baby "it" and not knowing. I mean, I had this baby growing in me, and so close to me all the time, and not having a name for him/her at the time was really upsetting to me. I don't know how to explain it. But as soon as we found out she was a girl, I felt so much better.

To me, it was a surprise at 20 weeks instead of 40 weeks and then when you get to 40 weeks, it's the surprise of what the baby looks like. The whole experience, especially for your very first baby - is amazing no matter what. We felt we bonded with her before, referring to her by name, etc. and when she came out, it was just amazing.
Totally agree!!! It really helped me bond - I got to shop for her, do her room the way I wanted, call her by her name, etc. It took nothing away from her birth.
I did get some girl stuff at my shower, but mostly my registry items.
