First IUI- feeling bummed about timing
So this month is my first IUI. The RE told me to call when I get my happy face and we'll schedule IUI for the next day. Well of course I got my surge yesterday (Saturday) and called. The office is closed Sundays so I'm getting the IUI at 8am tomorrow, but I just tested again and it's negative. The RE told me the egg can live up to 48 hours, which totally threw me for a loop. I'm feeling like today needed to be the IUI and we really missed our chance ??I was so excited for this month too. Total bummer. From experience do you girls think my chances are really low?

Re: First IUI- feeling bummed about timing
When you go in for your IUI tomorrow; I would definitely ask them to do a quick sonogram on you first to ensure that the egg might just still be there. You never know.

Re: First IUI- feeling bummed about timing
I'd only use an RE that's open 7 days a week for this reason.

First IUI- feeling bummed about timing
I know the feeling, I felt the timing to my last IUI might have been off as well.
It might still work!!!

Crashing - our RE was open 7 days a week and even holidays. What was supposed to be my "peak time" (I ended up ovulating later) was New Year's Eve/New Years Day and I went in both mornings for blood work. Had it been the right time, she would have done the procedure then.

I didn't know any weren't. I would think 2x about the place you are at because if you end up having a long journey this will happen again.

Ok so I guess my next question should be who is open 7 days a week? I'm currently seeing Dr. San Roman in Smithtown.

Long Island IVF is open 7 days a week. I've had monitoring and procedures done on weekends many times.

Re: First IUI- feeling bummed about timing
I don't see this question asked... why is the RE having you call when you get a "smiley face" Your RE is leaving timing up to an over counter device? Maybe you're not using any drugs (clomid/ovidrel)? I had 2 successful IUI, with Clomid and Ovidrel. Mine were monitored from day 3 on and with Ovidrel the RE controlled when I surged. If your RE is leaving it up to you then you need to speak to the office about being more available.

my re is open 7 days I just had my fist iui last week with ovidrel/clomid but they had me use an opk device and call when it was positive...then I brought the ovidrel with me and the nurse injected it. currently waiting but am so crampy today

It's our first month there and we did a natural cycle. I would assume that's why.

I wasn't sure if I should respond to this or not. I don't want to give you more information than you're asking for. I also had the same questions as JJ. I've done several natural cycle IUI's and I was always monitored throughout my cycle by my RE's office. I went regularly for sono and blood work so they could monitor my levels as well as follicle and more accurately time my IUI. I know you didn't ask about this but it does concern me that your RE wasn't monitoring you more carefully. I hope you don't mind the extra info. I'm hoping this IUI works for you and all of this is a moot point!

Re: First IUI- feeling bummed about timing
Wow, well based off of everyone's responses I guess my chances are pretty low here. I was surprised I wasn't going to be monitored more closely, but I figured since it was my first month there maybe I wasn't being taken so seriously just yet and they were taking a more laid back approach for the first month. I'm not sure if this is typical protocol for this office, but I was really excited about moving forward in this journey and now I'm just completely thrown for a loop thinking I may have to now switch practices

Re: First IUI- feeling bummed about timing
My IUIs were always the day after my trigger. Once, I surged on my own (using an OPK) before my scheduled trigger. My RE felt that I may have "undercooked" my egg. But he did say that if I wanted the IUI, it should be the next day (day after smiley).
I think you could still get PG from the IUI. Did you also BD the night of the smiley, or the day after? Then if so, it's definitely possible to get PG from intercourse or the IUI.
RE practices should be open 7 days/week, or at least for IVF patients. I'd definitely ask about their hours before moving on to IVF.

He is part of NSLIJ fertility which the main office is open 7 days a week. They should be sending you to an open office on a Sunday rather than saying wait til Monday. Question this!!!!

I absolutely will. Thank you! I had questioned what would happen in this case when I was there on CD 10. Knowing my cycle, I knew it was likely to happen. That's when he gave me the whole "the egg lives for up to 48 hours" discussion.

Re: First IUI- feeling bummed about timing
I felt the same way and I am now 11 weeks pregnant after my first IUI. The situation was a little different but I was questioning the timing. I was seen on friday for monitoring. The dr called that afternoon and to trigger on sunday. I was shocked I wasn't going in on saturday and was afraid the trigger would be late. My IUI was scheduled for Tuesday. Again, I was afraid that would be too late. I went in at 9 on Tuesday. I literally felt myself ovulate at 1230 (I feel it every month). 11 days later I had a BFP!! So, I know it is scary and the questions everyone is asking are good ones, but also try to trust your RE. He/she wants you to get pregnant. If you don't, ask about the timing, using a OPK vs blood monitoring, trigger shots, office schedule, etc, but right now, all you can do is trust and hope all these questions are irrelevant. Good luck!!

I'm sorry if we made you feel bad. I think you definitely have a decent shot. I think some of us were just taken aback by the no Sunday hours and lack of monitoring. I hate to see people not getting the best care they can. IF is hard enough, you deserve for your RE to give you the best shot. Once again, I'm sorry if we added to your stress.

First IUI- feeling bummed about timing
I go to NSLIJ and had the IUI on a Sunday...I think my timing was off too I feel like AF is coming any second and it's not due until Sunday I hope you are not out but if you are the office behind the hospital is open 7 days. My regular RE didn't do the IUI because they rotate weekends but that didn't bother me. Also they had me come in for a few sonograms and the day of the IUI they did a sono. Good luck!!!!!!
I'm out AF came 3 days early!

Yes sorry if I made you feel bad in anyway, I have been to two RE's and even though I had drugs I was monitored so I just wanted to make sure you were getting the very best care. Stay positive and keep us posted!!!
