When my husband talks about moving off LI when we retire, I hyperventilate. I can't imagine living anywhere else.
Maybe its the fear of the unknown, I don't know.
I like our four seasons. I like living close to the water but near to the city. We have the majority of our family nearby also.
Taxes and traffic stink but no place is perfect.
You’ve never traveled someplace else, maybe had friends and family and stayed awhile and thought maybe you could move there?

I wouldn't want to live in a backwards, homophobic, racist area where many are concerned only with their guns, wages are low, and there is little to no diversity.
Me neither, that’s why we left LI.
But you know what? We moved to an area that’s blue as the sky. They have these nice little “hate has no home here”signs on their lawns. There were celebrations in the streets when it was announced Biden won. They wear quadruple masks and test their kids for COVID for fun in their spare time. They’re picture perfect dems.
They especially love the “diversity” of the neighborhood. They are all about the non-white kids who live in run down apartments across town with their parents who work 3 jobs and still don’t have enough. Those non-white kids are vital to their liberal existence until someone proposes merging elementary schools. And someone proposes offering lower cost options for extracurricular activities. Then there’s major upheaval. Not in their backyard. They don’t give a sh!t about diversity and they certainly don’t give a sh!t about those kids.
There are racist dbags everywhere, on both ends of the political spectrum.

I accidentally stumbled onto this site after so many years and I just have to reply to this because this is what stuck out to me the most and I agree. I remember mentioning this to some friends and coworkers and the responses were eye opening. I suggested if they felt so passionate about it, then they should put some action and meat into their virtue signaling and sell their home and move to Wyandanch, Brentwood, Roosevelt, Central Islip, etc... and become part of the change they want to see. Living, not just working, but owning a home, sending their own children to schools in those communities and interacting on a daily basis in those communities. I also said they should be writing their representatives, going on social media, screaming from the rooftops to allow free choice in schools and merge the districts. Kids from Hempstead, Uniondale, Roosevelt can attend schools in Great Neck, Roslyn, Wantagh, Syosset, Manhasset, Jericho. Kids in Brentwood, Central Islip, Wyandanch can attend schools in Commack, 3H, Smithtown, Port Jeff, Northport, Mount Sinai. But no. Not in my backyard. You see, so much easier to chastise others and to become a mouthpiece for minorities and parade around in shirts for marginalized groups and preach on woke policies, so long as at the end of the day, they don’t have to see those same people they have now become the bullhorn for, driving down their block and parking in the driveway in the house across the street. I could be wrong but just an observation.

I agree with you regarding the schools. Everyone complains about their school taxes but the moment they talk about consolidating school districts...Nope, no one wants to do that. That is the easiest way to cut the fat...You mentioned Mt. Sinai and Port Jeff...2 TINY districts that sit right next to each other. Extremely top heavy and they would never merge.

Preach! I am sure those on here who are very vocal are the exception to this and live in areas that are very diverse and part of the change.

Fleeing NY
I am all for district consolidation. I live in I guess what people would call a "white" district, though it is more diverse than others on LI. We are next to a district that is 80% minority. It is a great high school and many of their students go on and attend Ivy League schools and win scholarships. I would have zero issue if the our two districts combined. Who cares what color the students are? They are good students and hard working. FTR, when we were house hunting, we looked extensively in Baldwin. A town many would say they don't recommend. But they have a great high school with high scores and lots of awards. We never found anything we loved, but did end up buying in a somewhat diverse district. Our zoned elementary school is 67% white.

You have sooooo many people on this site spouting “you’re racist, racist, racist, that’s racist, I’m better than everyone because I’m not racist” and the fact of the matter is none of these people would take their husband’s money and move to one of the aforementioned towns. Are you REALLY for critical race theory? Then take your fat ass and your two kids and your hubs and move to Roosevelt instead of some bucolic setting in another state.

I think there is a lot of truth behind this, unfortunately.
I have to say I get a kick out of this...but for all the wrong reasons.
Fat ass made me spit my drink out.....

I also don’t have 2 kids. And I definitely don’t need my husband’s money to do anything. I bust my size 4 ass at work every single day to have what I have.

It wasn't even directed at anyone quoted. They were referring back to Hofstra. Why such a h@rd on for her? I don't get the beef. You all whine about wanting to have an adult debate or conversation and then you act like scorned 13 year olds.

I think there is a lot of truth behind this, unfortunately.
I have to say I get a kick out of this...but for all the wrong reasons.
Fat ass made me spit my drink out.....
WHO COULD be that fat ass? lol: lol:
I was quoted but I didn’t call anyone racist or try to say I was better than anyone. I was just saying everyone sucks, regardless of politics.
I also don’t have 2 kids. And I definitely don’t need my husband’s money to do anything. I bust my size 4 ass at work every single day to have what I have.
I was quoted, and my moderately sized ass, DH, and one kid did and does literally every single thing listed on that post.
It wasn't even directed at anyone quoted. They were referring back to Hofstra. Why such a h@rd on for her? I don't get the beef. You all whine about wanting to have an adult debate or conversation and then you act like scorned 13 year olds.
I honestly didn't know it was directed at anyone here. I thought it was a general statement to the general "you ". Like if you all want change why not get up off your fat ass and put your money where your mouth is. But again, I could totally be off base!

Nope, it was directed at Hofstra...the mention of husband's money Moving out of state 2 kids Windyweather is Valentinesbaby and, after this post, probably RomeyT as well. The above mentioned has such a vendetta against Hosfta. You would think Hofsta has something "she" desperately wants or covets for herself.Any time "they" can be disparaging or insulting or childish toward her..."they" do. This is a classic example of what "they" do to her.

Oh, that's entirely possible.
I assumed it was me because my comment started the whole thing and - separately - I recently called out a racist statement.
I don't entirely disagree with the sentiment which is why I do in fact do those things - i.e. live in a mixed town, push my reps, etc.
However, my problem with the statement is that it implies that you can't do anything unless you do everything, which is a sure way to make sure we never get the change we need because then no one will feel empowered to do anything. The "all or nothing" sentiment gives people a pass to not do the work, to not try to understand, because part of doing the work is calling out racist statements.
The large majority of people on here have not been called racist, and the best way to not be called racist is to not make racist statements. And if you do - and it happens, because we all have internal biases and should be trying to unlearn them - to be humble enough to see what people might be talking about. This is why I think it's better to call out the statement, not the person, but when there are enough of them....
A bit of a tangent, but what else is new lol.

VB wrote it. So it's a safe bet that it was directed at Hofstra lol. Her post is about as cryptic as the message on Ralphie's secret little orphan Annie decoder ring. Gee I wonder who VB could be referring to?? Lol She's borderline obsessed with her and her life single white female style lol. Hofstra's husband is going to wake up one morning and find VB wearing a wig in his bed asking if he wants pancakes for breakfast lol And the fact that all these characters rapid fire came out and high fived each other I fcking can't, it's just too corny and cringey at this point
My God this website has truly turned into a trash heap in the past year since covid. Every single fcking post is either about covid, or some reiteration of VB's new "secret" identity that has everyone "fooled"
You wanna talk about fleeing NY. Long time users are fleeing the yawnfest that this website has become all is well. More room for VB's screennames and winning personality

I think there is a lot of truth behind this, unfortunately.
I have to say I get a kick out of this...but for all the wrong reasons.
VB and her 40 personalities are mental AF.

Who said anything about Hofstra? Is she the only one who has moved out of state with 2 kids? How about asking the poster as it sure ain’t hell me. Are you new here and don’t see how she attacks me every chance she gets? Let me know the posts where I attack and curse and call her names. I would love to see the comparison.
