Re: Flip Flops at work...yay or nay

Nope...I'll wear sandals, but leather and more dressy (usually heeled ones with one leather band).

same here. then again, I have only worked in a corporate environment.

I have seen women wearing "fancy" flip flops, but I would never.

Definitely nay.

It doesn't look professional and I know from experience that the "flip-flop" sound annoys the hell out of people (me!).

I have to tell you that I have non-flip flops that make more noise than my flip-flops. Everyone looks to see if I am actually wearing flip-flops because we are not supposed.

I think it depends on how you walk. anything backless could make the flip flop sound, but I like to think I glide, not walk, so they don't do that when I am walking. Chat Icon

I think "dressier" ones are fine, and you MUST have a pedicure! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I say nay. Especially in a corporate setting. I hate the sound of people flip flopping down the hall. Plus, totally unprofessional.

(unless of course you are preggo, then it's OK because usually nothing else fits, LOL)

Thank you for your sympathy...I say nay as well ( I work in a very corp. environment), but lately, my feet have been so swolen that I can't wear anything but nice dressy flip flops...if I wear flats or shoes it looks like I'm baking bread in there...

Re: Flip Flops at work...yay or nay

I used to wear them to work all the time when I worked.

It was a casual office so everyone wore them. It bothered noone and it was never a problem.

If it's more of a corporate setting and a fancier office then I wouldn't.

There is nothing unprofessional about them if worn in the right setting of the office...

Re: Flip Flops at work...yay or nay

I have on my old navy ones right now...
I swear if I did dress up I get two things...

a. hot date tonight???

b. are you going on a corporate interview

I wore a suit to my first interview back in 1999 and the producer said I looked "cute" in a condescending way....

we can't even wear open toed shoes in the summer here, so i don't think flip flops would fly.

Re: Flip Flops at work...yay or nay

totally depends on where you work.

where i am now- i couldnt even imagine it (although there is one PG lady at my office that just started but she's ready to pop any second and thats totally understandable). But anyone else- i would think it was shocking and inappropriate.

but, and my previous job, i wouldnt have even flinched. it was very casual, not corporate, and sweats were basically the standard.

so, it all depends.

Re: Flip Flops at work...yay or nay

i feel its inappropriate in a corporate environment.

but if you work at a very relaxed and casual office i see no problem with it.

Big nay.

At my office (large NYC law firm), I think open-toed shoes are a nay in general. Some partners will say something to you if you wear open-toed shoes to work.

Re: Flip Flops at work...yay or nay

I would't say across the board that flip flops are "inappropriate for work"

It definately depends on where you work. I worked on Wall St for five years, wore a black suit EVERYDAY and could not wear them. That job was a lot less stressful than this one.

Now I work for a nonprofit, and they are less concerned with what I wear and more concerned with how I perform.
So flip flops it is. We don't have time to sit around and discuss if flip flops are appropriate. I like that mentality.

I wear them all of the time. We have a very casual environment... I can wear jeans, tanks. We all keep a change of clothes in the office for meetings with clients. I love it!
