Flu Shot for a 6 month old
I know they don't give the flu shot for babies till they're 6 months. Mason is only 2 months now, but going to daycare after he's 3 months. We were thinking of getting him the flu shot when he's 6 months b/c he goes to daycare. Anyone get this done for their DC at such a young age??
TIA!

I think Kaydyn was about 9 months when we gave her the shot. They gave it in two doses b/c she was little and it was the first time she had it.

She got a slight fever but always did with any shot/vaccination that she got up until 12 months. Other than that she was fine.

Re: Flu Shot for a 6 month old
We let DS get the flu shot at 6 months. Partly because he's in daycare, but also because DH and I both work with children and bring lots of germs home with us!

Re: Flu Shot for a 6 month old
I'm thinking of doing this for DD bc of the swine flu outbreak she'll be older though I'm assuming around 10 or 11 months...

DD got one at 6 and 18 months both were the mercury free shot. She had no reaction to either one.

The flu shot is separate from the new swine flu shot that will be available (as is my understanding). So you would have to get 2 to be covered by both.

I think you're right, I'm going to have to ask my ped this week when I see him, honestly I think this winter is going to be bad, and I'd rather have her get the shots than risk her having the flu since she's so young...let's see what he has to say...I've always hated the flu shot, I've never gotten one, but I think I'm being ultra anal this winter....

Re: Flu Shot for a 6 month old
DS turned 6 months yesterday and at his check up today the ped recommended the flu shot...he said he can get it sometime in September/October.
Anyone have to test to see if there is an allergy to eggs before getting the shot? It seems so weird giving him eggs so young.

Re: Flu Shot for a 6 month old
Ds was 9 months when He got his flu shot. The first dose he had no reaction. The second he got a pretty nasty cold afterward but in all fairness he had symptoms prior to getting the shot.

Re: Flu Shot for a 6 month old
Are you breast feeding at all? My DD was covered by the flu shot because I got it and was breast feeding, so she didn't need it. I will probably get it for her this fall and she will be about 10 or 11 months.
I don't know if this is relevant, but do you or your Dh get any reactions to the flu shot? maybe there's a hereditary component? I know neither I nor Fh have ever had a reaction to it, so I'm hoping DD doesn't either. She hasn't had a reaction to any shots yet.

No, not BF b/c I'm back at work so I only BF for the first month and he's been on formula for over a month now. Since he's going to daycare I wanted to get him the shot and my Ped recomended it. I only got the flu shot once and didn't have a reaction. I don't think DH ever got it. So far he never had any reaction to the shots he's gotten

If the ped recommended it, I would go for it. I try to pick a doctor that I really trust and then trust them on these sorts of things because they see a lot more cases than I will ever see. Good luck!

Re: Flu Shot for a 6 month old
DD was about 7 months when she got hers. She was going to start daycare at 10 months and I wanted her to have it before that.
