flu vaccine for my 8 month old :VENT:
So my DD was never given the flu vaccine because our ped's office had 15 ft of water from Sandy and lost all their vaccines. They decided not to re-order the flu vaccine because they said it wouldn't be worth getting it by the time the vaccine came in. They told me I can go to any clinic or ped's office to get the vaccine and it wouldn't be a problem.
This was at her 7 month appointment.
Fast forward to now - she's 8 months - life got in the way and I never got around to getting her the vaccine. I hear on the news that the Gov. declared a medical state of emergency and any pharmacy will be able to administer vaccines to infants as young as 6 months - GREAT!
I called 3 pharmacies, 3 walk in clinics and a 2nd peditricians office. No one will give my daughter the shot.
I've been told:
"she has to be a patient" "we are only vaccinating ages 3 and up" "we are only vaccinating ages 18 and up" "we ran out and aren't getting it in"
"we can give her the vaccine but you have to wait until our next available appointment. The next available appointment is February 2nd."
and my all time favorite answer to the question of where CAN I get it for her?
Try your pediatrician!

Try a Queens-Long Island Medical Group office. I had my DS get the flu shot there one year when my ped didn't have it.

The problem now is that NO one seems to have any in stock!!! Since it is a bad year with the flu, people who didn't get it earlier, are getting them now. Since the state of emergency went out, clinics and pharmacies can give them out to anyone over the age of one. Not sure if it is a different vaccine..

They are freaking sold out everywhere! DS ped is out, local pharmacies are out or won't give it to kids- even with the Gov's mandate. I finally called my allergist and he had it but only a few injections left that he was protecting (lol).. he fit us in today and gave one to DS! I was so grateful to him. By the way, he told me the infant injections are very hard to find.. he ran out weeks ago.

Re: flu vaccine for my 8 month old :VENT:
I would probably call a few more pediatrician offices. Somebody has to have some left. If not I would call local hospitals to see of their clinics will administer it. If not, I would take the February appointment worst case and just be super careful until then.

Our Ped had it for DS (who is 2.5) but they didn't have it for my DD (who is 3.5). They directed us to our city's Health Department. We live in Georgia though... I'm not sure if you guys have places like that in NY. Maybe Google "(your city) Health Department" and see if anything comes up?

Believe it or not I got my flu shot at Shop Rite in Uniondale. Every CVS, Walgreens, etc. was sold out. Not sure if there are age restrictions though.

Unfortunately alot of the places where she can get the vaccine is where she'll wind up catching the flu. I had to take my son to PM ped for a leg injury and I definitely would not take your healthy baby there. It was one big germ fest. What about supplementing with vit d? Thats what our ped advised.

Thanks for all the responses and suggestions ladies!
Turns out that when I got home from work last night my mom (who watches her) said she has a cough that sounds kinda phelmy - so it's off to the doctor today anyway - I'll see what they say (again)
