Flying in first trimester
This might be a silly question, but DH and I are flying on Thursday. I'm 8 weeks. Can I go through the X-ray machines they have at the airport??

Re: Flying in first trimester
You can go through the regular metal detectors, but if you encounter a full body scanner,I would request a pat down. I have done that with no problems. You may just have to wait a few minutes for them to call over a female agent. Enjoy your trip!

Re: Flying in first trimester
totally safe to fly
assuming you are with people that know you are pregnant i would request the pat down instead of the newer body scans just to be safe. i requested it and they just ended having me walk through the regular metal detector instead but on the next trip i had to wait for a female to do the pat down
if you are traveling with people that dont know you are pregnant, you can go through the machines...they say its safe i just feel its so new i dont trust it...its whatever you are comfortable with

Flying in first trimester
The body scanners are not X-ray machines. I have been through regular metal detectors and the scanner.

Re: Flying in first trimester
Airports have metal detectors, not x-ray machines. It's perfectly safe to walk through it.
If you have to go through the full body scan, though, you might want to request a pat down instead.

Re: Flying in first trimester
Safe to fly...i flew at 11 weeks out of JFK; went through the normal metal detectors. On the flight home the airport had the full body scans. I told the TSA agent I was pregnant and would prefer not to go through the scan. He called over a female agent to pat me down.
During the flight when I got up to use the bathroom I noticed I felt light headed a little. The return flight I decided to stay in my seat (short 2 hour flight) and I was fine.

Flying in first trimester
i flew at 6w and i requested a pat down instead of the full body scan. i just let them know that i was expecting and they were very accomodating. totally safe to fly unless your OBGYN tells you otherwise.
