Flying with kids - ID question
Do we need any form of ID for kids when you fly?
My stepdaughter will be coming with us to Florida - she's 11 - does she need ID?
what about Cailen?

Re: Flying with kids - ID question
I'd call the airline directly. Find out what they specifically ask for.

I agree.
They can ask for a letter from the other parent if one parent is taking a minor child out of state.

Re: Flying with kids - ID question
It depends on the airline and who you get. I always bring DD's Social Security card and Birth certificate. I had a run in once and almost wasn't allowed on, but that was the only time. Every other time it is never questioned. Now with an 11 yr. old it maybe? I would bring those to be safe.

Re: Flying with kids - ID question
We had to show Alex's birth certificate - she was 5 months old.

Re: Flying with kids - ID question
We have never been asked for either kid - but have ALWAYS brought birth certificate and SS card.
Not even when DH took 6 month old on the plane by himself.

Re: Flying with kids - ID question
Call the airline some require it some don't. I have been ID'd for DS and have been sent home to get some form of ID for DS and other times nothing-so it is variable! They will take many forms of ID. I was tired of worrying and carrying around an expensive passport and hard to replace birth certificate for a Disney vacation so I went to DMV and for $10 in about 3 weeks I got a Non-Drivers State ID card for DS so I would not have to worry about this again. I just keep it in my wallet with my license.

Re: Flying with kids - ID question
We've flown JetBlue and they didn't require anything (DS was 3 months) and Southwest and they required a birth certificate, immuization record or passport (DS was 8 months) we had a passport for him, so we just used that.
As for your SD, I don't know about ID, but I think that your DH should bring a notarized letter from his ex saying he can travel with her (both girls if they are both under 18 and traveling with you).
