FMLA question
Does anyone know if FMLA is exactly 12 weeks or is it the equivalent of 60 work days? Since we get off for Yum Kippur, Columbus day, Veterans day and Thanksgiving, that could be an extra week off with DS if it is 60 days. If it's exactly 12 weeks, I go back a week earlier. Anyone know?

Re: FMLA question
I cannot imagine that it's different state to state since it's federal but I was just told my my leave dept (in FL) that it's 60 work days.

Re: FMLA question
I am a NYC Teacher and the 12 weeks you get with FMLA includes all the vacation days so for instance I was off from Mid Sept last year until January 5th. Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas was PART of my 12 weeks! I was disappointed!

Re: FMLA question
i asked the superintendent in my district and it's not 60 work days. (I just gave birth last month, so i found this out recently). i was told that if school is open 3 or more days a week, it counts as one week towards the 12. if school is in session only 1 or 2 days a week (say Christmas fell on a Wednesday, for example) that week does NOT count towards the 12, so it would be like a "free" week.
I would take to your principal or someone from personnel. if you're in NYC, perhaps the payroll secretary would know.

boo, this is what I was afraid of. I will call personnel on Monday to double check. I'm still holding out hope.

same for me. not every district is the same. you need to contact your personal district.
when i had DS, it was 54 days, NOT 60 due to holidays!

I also work for the dept of ed and i went out on FMLA. The days of summer did not count towards my FMLA but they did count towards my 8 weeks maternity. i was able to stay out 15 weeks b/c summer doesnt count! That was a nice surprise

Re: FMLA question
It's 12 weeks or UP TO 60 days. Technically, I'll be taking 12 weeks, but it only equals like 53 days or something like that.
