follicle size
this may have been asked before, even by me, but i don't remember.
what are the ideal sizes for a follicle to be to be considered mature to do an IUI?
i thought it was between 18-20mm. Is this the general accepted size or do different RE's have different opinions on the matter?
I had 2 follicles this cycle. one was 17½ yesterday, the other was 12½. Today, one was 20 and the other was 14½. Before i left this morning she told me she would call me this afternoon, but most likely, the IUI would be on Wednesday. She called back in the afternoon and said the IUI won't be on Wednesday and to come back for more BW and US tomorrow. I was like then the dominant follicle will be too large and she was like no the RE said he wants to see if the other smaller follicle will get bigger in time. My thinking is, by risking it and seeing if this follicle will grow, am i chancing the other follicle becoming too mature?
Either way, we have already blown threw all of our infertility coverage for the year so we ended up having to pay for half of this cycle on our own. If this doesn't work, DH wants to take a break. I don't know if we'll try again this year again at all, but if we do, seriously doubting that I will go back to this RE because I think he is too overly cautious from the way he tells me which meds to take and just the timing in which he does things.

Re: follicle size
Are you on a medicated cycle and triggering? If so, 18-20mm is ideal for trigger on a medicated cycle. I guess your b/w doesn't show you surging yet, so they're trying to wait it out, but I'd get nervous, like you. If you wait until Wednesday, the smaller one may get big enough, but you're also right in thinking that you may miss the larger one.
I know you used to use Dr. G. I had a similar situation with my last IUI and he left the option to me. I went with the one that I knew was mature enough and triggered. There's also always a chance that the trigger could've been the boost your 14.5mm follie needed to mature. But either way, 1 mature follie is really all you need for an IUI. Your RE is trying to get you 2 mature follies, but who knows how it'll work out. If you start to surge on your own, you'll prob trigger Wed with the IUI on Thurs.
So I'm rambling, but I'd say you have to trust your RE. And if you don't trust him, I'd look elsewhere if this cycle doesn't work.
