Re: food - daily intake for a toddler

Here's what logans eating today...it's pretty similar most days. He's not big on fruits and veggies, so we do the best we can.

Breakfast:
Oatmeal

Pre-nap lunch:
Bowl of Yogurt and 3 mini pancakes

Post-nap lunch:
An egg and some applesauce

Dinner:
Chicken nuggets and an attempt at some sort of veggie which usually ends up on the ground.

For snacks throughout the day he munches on things like Teddy Grahams, goldfish, baked cheese puffs...

Right now she's being so picky. She's almost 16 months. What I can get her to eat is fruit, bread, crackers, Panckes, waffles, French toast, cheerios, Honey Grahams, goldfish, water milk.

Bfast- usually 2 small pancakes, or 1 slice mini waffles, or 1 piece freanch toast and some fruit with milk

10:00 am a snack a cup of goldfish, or cheerios something along those lines

11:30/12 lunch. This one is getting tough. Today it was about 6 crackers and some fruit and water

3ish snack again a cup of something snacky
Chat Icon And milk

5:30ish dinner. This one is really tough. Whatever she will eat. Yesterday I gave her pancakes. She won't eat anything so she winds up eating more fruit and water

That's it. Repeat the next dayChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: food - daily intake for a toddler

ok so this is jack on an average day ... let me know?

630 - 6oz milk in cup
830 - 2 mini waffles, 2 mini pancakes and fruit
1230 - yogurt and cheese, a few cheerios
2pm - 6oz milk
4pm - snack can consist of fruit, cheerios or goldfish, sometimes a fruit bar or jammy sammy,
6pm - sweet potato pancake, veggie, hot dog or chicken nugget and more fruit
715 - 6oz milk cup

jack is a fruit junkie but we are lacking in the veggie department. the only way that I can get veggies into him is via an Ella's squeeze pouch that has some sort of veggie in it. protein is tough too (though he gets plenty of dairy which is a source of protein)

he also wont eat any form of pasta (or tortalini etc). this kid is 1/2 italian. his italian grandparents are in shock Chat Icon

It must be the age. DD will be 16 moths and on a strike as well. She ate everything we gave her then one day started refusing everything.

Re: food - daily intake for a toddler

it varies by the day and how hungry he is.

Sun:

2.5 whole wheat buttermilk pancakes, half a plum and half a nectarine

quartered cherry tomatoes

zucchini with red sauce, roasted chicken with potatoes and carrots

yesterday:

2 thin slices whole wheat homemade zucchini bread and blueberries

lunch: pasta with tomato sauce, a half of a rolled chicken taco

fruit

dinner: shredded chicken, an over easy egg and sliced avocado- some of his favorite foods but he didn't each much

today (so far)
less than 1 slice ww zucchini bread, one whole pear

he's also slated to have some zucchini parmiggiana (which he loves so he should eat a good portion) with some watermelon and tonight we are having beef veggie soup with bread. he should eat that pretty well too.

he also still gets at least 18 oz of milk a day, plus water and water splashed with fresh squeezed or regular juice.

for the most part, I let him eat as much as he wants at meals. we are not really big snackers so he isnt' much of a snacker. if he's not hungry, I don't force the issue. I figure he'll make up for it another day.

19 months

breakfast-
About 4oz milk
1 1/2 waffles or 2 fried eggs and 1/2 a banana
(I have the best luck with breakfast)

snack-
1/2 a cereal bar or some cheese crackers- never goes over well- usually gets thrown to the dog

lunch-
maybe 1/2 a cup of pasta in marinara and a meatball or sometimes a slice of pizza or a peanut butter sandwich. He used to eat a hummus sandwich but lately he's getting more and more picky...

Another snack-
A plum or a peach usually

Dinner is usually a big wash Chat Icon We try but he only takes a few bites here and there.

6oz milk about 1/2 hour before bed.

He is on a MAJOR vegetable strike so he drinks v8 splasher throughout the day instead of juice. He loves fruit but the veggies "NO NO NO" Chat Icon

Re: food - daily intake for a toddler

My son is 19 months and overall a decent eater.

This is what he had yesterday:

Breakfast: Waffle and a medium sized bananda

Lunch: Macaroni and cheese, cut up grape tomatoes, cut up fruit, a few Teddy Grahams

Snack: Cheerios

Dinner: 1 small baked chicken cutlet, mac & cheese, plum, 1 choc. chip cookie

Normally I wouldn't give him mac & cheese twice in 1 day, but my mom brought Panera for lunch and I already had dinner planned. I also try to give him vegetables at lunch and dinner, but didn't get to last night!

On the menu for today:

Breakfast: Cheerios and a banana

Lunch: Dr. Praegers fish sticks and spinach pancake

Snack: Yogurt

Dinner: Stuffed shells and a plum

Re: food - daily intake for a toddler

i read, I will try to find where....., that kids only need to eat about 1 oz per year of age per meal. I know that seems like so little, but they do alwways say how out of control ortion size is in the US so maybe its seems like so little because we are use to such big pportions? IDK. If I find where I read that I wil post the link.

Re: food - daily intake for a toddler

It varies so much. Yesterday was pretty good, they each had:

B - 3 mini pancake muffins, whole banana

mid-morning snack - small handful of Cheerios

L - 1.5 scrambled eggs each, one had a cheese stick, small yogurt cup, handful of blueberries

pm snack - they each had a granola bar

D - one chicken hot dog, one ate a large portion of mixed steam veggies (the other hasn't had a veggie in weeks), a little more than one cup of pineapple/honeydew

Dinner is usually the worst as far as quantity. I have trouble with my veggie refuser, and the other one won't eat cheese unless its melted (like mommy). And neither of them drink milk. AT ALL.

ETA they are almost 22 months

Well this is WIC's recommended daily intake for toddlers....not necessarily what they "need" but what they should get...it is from the Florida Dept of Health.Link

Still trying to find the other article.

Re: food - daily intake for a toddler

Breakfast - 1 Eggo waffle or 4-6 mini homemade pancakes, or cheese omelete made with 1 egg/1 white and half slice of toast, 1/2 banana, 7oz milk

Lunch: 1/2 sandwich (grilled cheese, turkey/cheese, PB&J, cream cheese/Jelly), 1/2-1 yogurt or 7 oz milk

Dinner: last night was about 3/4 chicken cutlet, a spoonful of corn, a serving of mac and cheese, a few cucumber slices and 1/2 a little cup of applesauce and some teddy grahams

Before bed: 7 oz milk

Throughout the day (mainly before breakfast and before dinner) they will snack on dry cheerios. An afternoon snack will be 1/2 slice of raisin bread, a Gerber cereal bar, fruit, etc. They love fruit so they always get some fruit and usually dinner will have more of a veggie.

Since they are twins I usually split everything between them...a cup of Dole Fruit, an applesauce, a cereal bar, raisin bread...everything gets cut in two! Chat Icon

an actually after rereading this I think I need to cut out a dairy for them! But I don't think they get this much dairy during the week at day care, only with me on the weekends and they do love their milk!

Re: food - daily intake for a toddler

DD is just over 2. She is a pretty picky eater. It's usually the same stuff over and over again.

Breakfast options: Scrambled eggs, french toast, pancakes, muffins or cheerios. Usually with milk.

AM snack: Strawberries, blueberries and grapes are the big fruits these days, so usually some of ay of these.

Lunch: Usually dinner leftovers from the night before, if I have them (she comes to work with me so I have to have them AND remember to pack them). Otherwise it can be soup, mac and cheese, hot dg, chicken nuggets, pizza, etc. Whatever is available or accessible

Afternoon snack: goldfish, graham crackers, fruit.

Dinner: Whatever i'm making.

Her diet is seriously lacking in veggies. She will not touch them- not even to try them. I can't blame her because I know her pickiness comes from me.Chat Icon

Re: food - daily intake for a toddler

DS is 2. He's a pretty good eater, although he doesn't have much variety.

Breakfast: cheerios and milk and snacks on yogurt melts or strawberries

Lunch: 1 pc low-salt ham, 1 pc low-salt turkey, 2 pcs cheese, tater tots or homemade roasted potatoes, cut up strawberries. Sometimes a cut up pickle. If he wants more meat, we give it to him.

Dinner: Pasta with sauce, or chicken cutlet with tots or roasted potatoes, chicken parm, or hotdog (infequently), and strawberries for snack.

He used to eat grean beans and wax beans. He's been refusing them lately.

I sneak in a yogurt when I can. He wants to chew everything lately, so mushy stuff is hard to feed him.

He gets about 24 oz of whole milk a day still and doesn't really snack in between meals.
