Re: Food battles
Honestly the family member probably means well, but they are doing far more harm than good by giving in to him. Have you tried explaining that he can have the things like pudding, but not until he eats what he is supposed to? His behavior is not surprising because I'm sure he has figured out that even if you won't give him what he wants, someone will. I'm sorry you're dealing with this.

Re: Food battles
I think it's bad to give into food with kids who are NOT struggling with some kind of special need.
My MIL learned this watching my DS and his 2 cousins. She was making different things for each kid for every meal, and just going completely crazy and out of her mind.
Now she prepares one meal for all at designated times, and if they don't eat, they don't eat.
It's hard dealing with them crying, but I don't think kids will starve.
I have similar issues with DS, especially at night when it's time for dinner.
If he refuses to eat the family meal we will try to get him to eat cereal and a glass of whole milk.
I also sometimes wonder since DS primarily likes "carby" stuff, if this makes him so wild a lot of the times.
I have heard other ladies on this site say diet plays a big role in behavior.
