Food/Daycare question for a nervous mom..
DD is going to daycare for the first time next week
I am making cubes of food that are frozen and she is BF.
I think I am going to leave a box of cereal at daycare, but I am trying to figure out how to get the food there and have the BM ready to mix with the cereal.
MIL told me about a dish she used when her kids were young that heats up food by plugging it in...anyone hear of anything like this?
Or I am considering buying a dish with sections...daycare can mix cold BM and cereal and put in microwave, along with cube...is this dangerous for DD? I've heard mixed things about using the microwave.
Any advice would be really helpful...thanks!

Re: Food/Daycare question for a nervous mom..
The infant room in our daycare had a crockpot full of water that was on all day so they could heat the bottles. They also had a microwave to heat food. I would check with your daycare to see what they do to heat things up before buying extra stuff.

Re: Food/Daycare question for a nervous mom..
My daycare won't mix BM with cereal so DS gets water with cereal. I leave the cereal at daycare. I would not put BM in the microwave. It destorys the properties/nutrients. I've had no problem giving DS oatmeal mixed with cold BM.
I put the frozen cubes in take and toss bowls. Daycare stores the bowls in the refrigerator until it's time for a meal. They put the bowl in the crock pot to defrost the cubes and warm them up.

I think I am going to try mixing cold BM with oatmeal this morning to see how it goes...thank you.

Re: Food/Daycare question for a nervous mom..
You should talk to your day care first. BM is a bodily fluid and they may not be able to use it like that. Also day cares (in NY) aren't allowed to heat food/bottles in a microwave. We need to use a crock pot. They may be fine with heating the BM and the cubes in the crock pot. You just have to find something that can withstand the heat. The BM storage bags work as long as they don't hit the sides. What the BF babies do in the center I work at is to use water that they bring in and we leave out of the fridge. It works fine, I did it for my 2 children too. Good Luck

Thank you for the suggestions. I will call the childcare center to ask about the handling of BM. She takes kids from her home, so I don't think she goes by state guidelines...but it may be a comfort issue for her, too.

Just so you know if she is taking care of more than 3 children she must be licensed in NYS. I would ask about that (unless it is only your little one) because if someone turns her in and the state comes she will have to close down that day.
