Re: For all SAHM's that used to work...

Hmm, this is a tough question.
Since I never had to really leave a job, I dont know THAT feeling. I got preggo with all three while going to school, student teaching and now subbing, so I never had that "leave job for baby" thing Chat Icon
and I think this answer also GREATLY depends on how much you love your job and what type of job it is (as far as whether it's something you worked hard to reach, etc)..
I never saw having a baby (or 2 or 3 Chat Icon) as replacing my personal goals and ambitions.
Although Im not working f/t (and dont know if Im ready to! Chat Icon Chat Icon) I DO need a mix of both. I adore my boys and love being home with them, but I certainly need everything that makes me who I am. I need to be involved in school/work/ community things, etc.
It's just in my nature to be this way, and Id be losing my mind just being home all day not pursuing any personal goals. (no offense to those that are).
Yes there are weeks where Im home every day with them, right now Im enjoying the best of both world (work only when I want)... so I cant say the grass is greener either way.. right now I can only speak for working part time and I love the combo of both.
and being that the career Ive chosen is teaching, Im looking forward to having a lifestyle that works hand in hand with being there every moment from when the school day is over. I dont think Id be able to work an office 9-5 type job and be that far "out of the loop" from my daily life and routines... (just my opinion). I want to be extremely on top of their every moments and experiences, yet I also want to accomplish my own goals...
and even if I wasnt subbing right now, Id HAVe to do something, even if ten hours a week, I would have to.
(I have had a secret desire to waitress just for the heck of it Chat Icon my MIL tells me im nuts Chat Icon)

So this isnt a clear cut question for me as you can see Chat Icon

whatever works for everyone is great, since a happy mom makes a happy baby! (and happy hubby Chat Icon Chat Icon )

Regret it, no... but sometimes I think maybe I should have went back to the office one or two days a week for my own sanity... I work from home and sometimes I miss the whole office thing...
But then I think that I would miss DD too, so who knows!

I love being fome but your right just to use another part of my brain at workl sometmes would be good.. My husband is home every day by 2 so I am looking into maybe a part time job...

Re: For all SAHM's that used to work...

tough question for me too. Regret - I can't say I regret it at all esp not now. I hope I don't in the future. I do work one day a week right now so I do have my "adult day" but I miss using my brain in a whole different way. I miss balancing projects and managing timelines. I sometimes feel bad that I worked so hard to get where I was in my career and felt no other option but to put it all on hold knowing very well - i will never be able to go back in my career and definitely not near where I was. While financially we are fine, I miss making my money and feeling like I am contributing equally. No matter how I spin it without the old paycheck and benefits it is hard for me to feel equal.

But with that I can't say I regret my decision just miss some of my old life.

I love being home with my baby. But I dont love being expected to do EVERYTHING just because I am home now.

I can honestly say I do miss my job. I loved teaching and I KNEW I was good at it. I know I am a good mom but home maker...I stink. LOL

I also miss my friends and the interaction between adults. Although I agree with the above poster, no one can take care of my baby like me..so that alone is enough for me to WANT to stay home.

Outside of the social interaction, I can't think of a single thing I miss about working.

I knew I wanted to take care of my kid myself, this was something I always dreamed of.

No regrets... I just feel that all that college and all the loans is being wasted. Yes I have a degree and I will always have it but its not being used. sometimes it makes me a bit sad. I love being home with Olivia.

Re: For all SAHM's that used to work...

I miss the work, the deadlines, the juggling a million projects at a time. Yes I still am in multi-task central as a SAHM but it is just not the same. To be brutally honest, I love being home with the kids and for now I am ok with it since they are so young, but I do feel as if I've made a huge sacrafice for my own happiness. I work for my old job from home, so not only do I have to do all the SAHM stuff, but also figure out how to handle my marketing clients 20 hours a week. I work from home to keep myself in the loop for when I do decide to go back f/t. But deep down, I can get pretty bitter that I have all this responsibilty and I still don't get to go out to lunch with collegues or drink my am coffee while it is still hot! Chat Icon For now, it is best for my kids for me to be home, so that is what I will do. In a few years it will be best for me to go back to work , sot that is also what I will do. Chat Icon

I work PT and I LOVE IT! I love my job, (x-ray/mammo tech) and the women i work with are AWESOME! We are all so close, and on days that it's slow at work (which is rare) we all sit around, bullsh1t, and LAUGH LAUGH LAUGH!!.. A few of them have babies Jacob's age and so we have LOTS to talk about. For me, I wouldnt be able to stay at home Full time. I would miss the $$ too much, since I am a money hungry beeotch, Chat Icon and I enjoy the break. But everyone's gotta do whats best for them. Chat Icon

ETA: I bring home almost as much money PT as I did FT after getting a hefty raise, so it's def worth it for me.

I work PT and love it. I get the best of both worlds.

I love getting out of the houseChat Icon I am very lucky though. My job is very flexible so if I need to stay home or come in late I can.
