For BTDT Mommies... RE Toddler Temper Tantrums
Ok, mommies, I'm losing my mind. DS is 17 months old, and he throw the WORST temper tantrums for something even as small as he is pushing his truck around and it gets stuck somewhere or hits the wall... the WORST is when we bring him inside from playing outside. OMGosh, this tantrum could go on FOREVER, and I"m at a loss of what to do or if this is normal??? I am TRYING to ignore them b/c I know that's what I'm supposed to do, but they last FOREVER, and then it seems they set the tone for the whole day ahead.... What do I do or am I doing wrong? Is this a normal stage for this age? I was expecing terrible twos but not terrible ones............

I always ignore her. Every now and then I'll pipe in and tell her that I won't speak or play with her until she can calm down.
It helped diminish the tantrums when she realized she wouldn't get any attention, but it does still happen.
Just yesterday Alex woke up a crankster from a late nap, and literally sobbed, screamed and wailed for a good 45 minutes, all while hanging onto my skirt as I tried my best to ignore her as I did some house chores.

But this is normal toddler behavior, right? Or should I be doing something differently? It makes me DREAD taking him outside to play at all....

TOTALLY normal. Totally. I have found, at least with Alex, the tantrums are usually part and parcel of either (1) hunger, (2) fatigue, or usually (3) boredom. If I take her out, she'll snap out of her crank phase, but yesterday I was feeling so ill from a head cold, that I just couldn't do it, so I had to suffer through a 45 minute tantrum instead.
As much as DH claims that Alex has mental issues because of her tantrums , I have to keep reminding him that it is completely normal behavior.
It DOES get better as long as you are consistent in the way you respond.

Thank you so much! I felt terrible last night b/c I just couldn't wait to go to work this morning.... How bad is that?

We had the same night, and I had the very same sentiments It's not bad, it only means you are human. Be forgiving of yourself, we all get frustrated with our children, particularly when they scream at us for over 40 minutes
