For those without latch in their middle seat, where did you install the car seat?
Did you use the center seat and use the seatbelt, or did you use the side seat with latch? AND IF YOU used the side seat, did you disable the side curtain air bags (if you have)?
I read in a book that side curtain airbags should be disabled, but I am not sure if this is true. And right now, we have the car seat installed on the left side b/c we used the latch but I am now debating if I should put it in the middle seat with the seatbelt.
Opinions please!

We used our seat belt in the middle since we were told middle is safest...(after all, latch didnt always exist)..Will be doing the same this time

We didnt have latch in the middle when dd was in infant seat, so we used seatbelt. Then when we moved her to the side forward facing, we used the latch system. Then when we took to the seat belt check at hospital they told us it was better to use seat belt than latch system..  I wasnt there, dh had it checked.. so no clue how the seatbelt is safer than latch system, I wish he had asked.

We had ours professionally installed. DH's car has latch on the sides, not the middles - I have no latch system at all. Both seats were installed in the middle with seat belts.

We did the middle with the seatbelt. Just FYI, the LATCH is no safer than a seatbelt, just "easier."

I had a safety person install Kristina's carseats - both the infant, and then she also did the Britax.
She put both seats in the center w/just the seatbelt. Center is safest!

That is not necessarily true. My car's manual specifically says to NOT put a car seat in the middle.
We had her seat inspected at the hospital and they put it behind the passenger seat.

Where can I find someone to professionally install the car seat? Or check it's installation?
Thanks ladies. We will move it to the center. I don't feel right about it being on the side if it can be avoided.

I don't have the latch system in my car, but DH does. Both of our carseats were installed in the center of the backseat.

Seatbelts are potentially safer than LATCH because they support more weight. LATCH only goes up to 45-48 lbs or so. After DC is over that weight, you HAVE to use the seatbelt.
I figure if the LATCH system has limits, it has the potentially to not be as good. The main benefit of the LATCH is that it is much easier to use, so the chances of getting it hooked up right are better, but that doesn't mean it's safer....
