Forced air heat and smoke question.
I'm wondering if we should get ducts cleaned before turning in the heat. The previous owners smoked (Chain smoked is more like it) in the sunroom off the kitchen. We painted and replaced ceiling tiles so it's all good now. The sliding doors to the kitchen open to this sunroom so when they used to open the door smoke would get in the house. We painted the kitchen including ceiling which was gross from smoke as well as the LR. They never smoked in the actual house.
I'm wondering if smoke would have gotten I to the ductwork of the house though. Should we have them all cleaned? If so is this expensiv? We moved in the end of may so we haven't used heat yet so I'm not sure if there would be a smoke smell if we turned it on.

Re: Forced air heat and smoke question.
When we bought our house, it had an "old person" smell so we knew the ducts needed to be cleaned. Good thing we did, it turned out the ducts contained multiple things such as mold, dust mites, nicotine, and the list goes on.
We used Green Pro who is based in Deer Park. Their number is 631-940-8100.
The price depends on how many air ducts you have, as well as main trunks. The ducts were $9 each and main truck was $25 each. We also ended up getting more service from them and had a UV light air purifier installed because of all the mold and mildew they found.
A couple of months ago we discovered two ducts they missed. The company sent someone right away and cleaned them free of charge.
I highly recommend them!
