Formula and water?? To boil or not to boil...
Hey ladies, just starting giving our little girl some formula with breastmilk and our ped recommended just using straight poland spring without boiling it..so since I'm not on the up and up with formula right now, wanted to see what you girls did and how it worked out..obviously just mixing without boiling is sooo much easier...but just wasn't sure if it poses any risks..thanks!

I actually would use tap water, either filtered or boiled (or straight up) b/c tap water is regulated and bottled is not.

Never boiled it. My ped said tap water is best. (More closely regulated than bottled water.) We just run the tap through the Brita pitcher and then mix with powder formula.

We have a water filtration system, so we used it from our fridge dispenser

Funny... I just had this conversation today. We use poland spring water and do not boil. A friend of mine was told that tap water was good because of the flouride but I don't trust it.

Why? Tap water is regulated and bottled water is not. In fact, some bottled water is just tap water put into a bottle.
Also, I am pretty sure that there is no flouride in the water on LI.

I don't trust "my" tap water, Since I moved into my house I never drank our water. It has a funny smell to it. Maybe its just because I'm so used to bottled water???

We said the same thing. Ours smells funny and tasted funny. So we installed a Pur Water filter on our tap and now the water smells and tastes great. Could be chlorine...

Re: Formula and water?? To boil or not to boil...
I would say if you have a big cooler in your house that the PS comes out of, you might want to boil that. That alone can harbor bacteria. We always boiled it b/c of this.
Now i just use tap water that is filtered.

Same here. Our fridge has a filter.
Tap water was recommended by the doctor and he said there is no need for bottled water.

We use water from the Brita. We would just keep the water on the counter so the water is room temp. Never heated. Recently, we've put the brita in the fridge and he's taken a cold bottle. temp never seemed to both him. Never boiled water before.

Re: Formula and water?? To boil or not to boil...
We just use water straight from the tap. Tap water is extremely regulated and LI has some of the best water in the country. Bottled water has no regulations. Not to mention how much garbage you will create using a bottle of water every time you make formula. If you are concerned, I'd get a brita pitcher and use that.

I always boiled it. It became such a routine. Every evening I would boil the water for the bottles and make myself a cup of tea :) On the go I used bottled.

Re: Formula and water?? To boil or not to boil...
I boiled filtered tap water...let it cool then filled a bunch of bottles. When I needed to give DD a bottle i just scooped in the formula and shook the bottle. This worked out great in the middle of the night...or when we were out running around. I just got her used to room tep formula and i never had to worry about warming the bottle.
