I just spoke to the nurse and she said he's much more comfy without the vent tube. They trached him and although he's in pain, he is not sedated. Hopefully in a few days once the anesthetic is out of him we can get more of a response out of him. His kidneys are caput so everything takes a long time to run out of his body. They are giving him morphine for the pain. His eyes opened and he looked at the nurse but it wasn't like he was looking her in the eye. Kind of a stoned look in the eye! 
We're off to see Lt. Dan in a few for a quick fly by so I can see his condition. I'm taking the next two nights off for mental health. I'm also extremely exhausted.
