I dont see how making food can take time away from you child. I work full time and i make the baby food while my kids are napping or after they go to bed and i freeze it. it doesnt take that long at all.

I did it and managed well. Sundays were my day to make big batches for the week and I would freeze them.
Same here - I spent Sunday mornings making food for the week (sometimes I would get things to stretch for a week and a half).
Just wanted to add that it was in no way time consuming (making baby food is joke) and I wasn't missing out on time with my DS.
Everyone does what works for them. I worked it into my schedule.

I dont' think it takes time away from time with my DD but it is just ANOTHER chore I have to do- add it to the list.
So when she is napping or in bed at night, it's laundry, cleaning, dishes, cooking dinner, etc etc
I would rather use the time to spend with my DH or put my feet up or watch a show or save my sanity.
I just didn't need another chore added to my list and I saw nothing wrong with store bought baby food.
If I thought there was a huge benefit to making my own food for her I would have...but as it stood, I saw no benefit to make it worth the extra time in my day.

I make all my baby food with a full time job and with a 2 year old. When I steam the veggies I make enough for my toddler so I feel like I'm killing 2 birds with one stone. Half of it gets pureed for my 7 month old, the other half I give to my toddler for lunch or dinner the next day. I do this between 9:30 to 10:30pm almost every night after the kids go to bed. I don't freeze anything. The effort required to portion out, freeze, thaw and reheating takes just as much work as making it fresh. DS eats 3 meals a day but he just started yogurt so I only have to prepare 2 meals a day for him. And by 9/10 months I won't have to do this anymore.  He'll be eating table food.

Never did it...I was completely overwhelmed when I had my DS 3.5 years ago...I admit I gave him Gerbers, Earth's Best, etc...but this time around I am actually considering it. Have to look into buying a food processor.

I've made bunch already. Definitely not hard and doesn't take as much time as you think!
ETS: I do make ahead meals for weekday dinners on Sunday anyway so when I made DD's stuff it was just one extra pot on the stove.

That's not a fair thing to say. It's an added chore just like me making all our weekday dinners which takes time away from my family. Just because DD is sleeping doesn't mean I don't want to put my feet up either. We are all busy moms and deserve breaks. If some folks don't want to make food, so be it. I make and I buy!

Its so easy that you can make a batch real quick over the weekend, freeze it, and have it for the entire week. Its actually much easier, cheaper AND healthier that way.

agreed. Time is precious and if someone wants to spend it doing other chores, or relaxing, or sitting there watching DC sleep or whatever, don't knock their choice. We all have our preferences on what we want to spend our time doing and if there is an easier option, no one should be made to feel guilty for choosing it!

She wasn't knocking anyone's choice, she was saying it didn't take away from being with her child and it doesn't take long.

It depends on the type of job you have. Do you leave your house at 8 am or 6 am? Do you get home early every day (5 or earlier? Or do you get home at 7:30? Do you have to work at home after DC goes to bed or does your job stay in the office? How much DH helps is also a factor.
I think I tried this once and did not have the time. I bought all organic - Earth's Best or Plum!

She wasn't knocking anyone's choice or saying her choice was better at all. Some mentioned that for them, making baby food would have taken them away from spending time with their child. I believe that's what she was responding to. She was merely saying that it doesn't have to take time away from your child.

I had good intentions of doing so, but DS HATED my food, he literally would throw up when I gave it to him.
With DS #2, we used mostly Earth's Best, because both kids seemed to like them better.

I did a mix of store bought organic & homemade. Honestly though I was very paranoid about getting the consistency right when I made it myself. Then there was the time I found a piece of hard apple core in my homemade pureed applesauce & the "what-if" of that situation put me over the edge & that was the end of my baby food making endeavors!

I barely had time to make my own food, much less hers.
I see nothing wrong with the store bought food- I read the labels- it's just sweet potatoes and water, apples and water etc... it's not like they are adding any chemicals etc
For me, one less bell to answer.
That is why Gerber was invented.
Time is money to me every single time.
Agreed lol! I only get organic so i don't feel too bad.

Same here but I would devote an entire Sunday to making it and freezing it and that would last me over a month.
DS was only on baby food for 3-4 months so all it took was 3 marathon Sundays and I was good. I found it to be so worth it and saved us a bunch of $.
I never bought any fancy baby food making machines. I used my blender and pot steamer insert or oven. I froze them in the silicone cube ice trays and stored them in labeled zip-lock baggies.
Same here.
