Future Elections
I’m hoping that going forward we can go back to getting results on election night. This whole process was ridiculous.
Post covid world, mail in voting to the masses needs to be eliminated. There is no reason majority of the people who did mail in voting can’t go to the polls once covid is gone. Especially the ones who showed up in person to drop off their mail in ballot during early voting. I don’t mind early voting so much because it’s in-person and you can see an actual person voting.
I’m already hearing people “joking” that they are requesting ballots for their elderly grandparents who don’t go out to vote and filling it in themselves next election. Is it bad I’m already dreading the next election???

I think mail in voting is great. Colorado has been doing it for years without issue. Florida, who can’t get their shit together on a good day, had all results tallied quickly because they had a good system. It depends on the states and what they are granted to do.

In today’s political climate, I’m not a fan of it.

Re: Future Elections
Well, judging by our current state of affairs and the fact that we're 10 months into a pandemic that so many Americans are still ignoring and living their best life through, it doesn't seem like there will be a post-covid world any time soon.

Re: Future Elections
With many reports of people waiting in line for 5,10 hours or more, and having to drive long distances to polling places, I think mail-in voting should be expanded.
Many states only have polling places open for 12 hours. For many people, they have an hour+ commute each way, and the polling place is inconvenient, so they have to take time off from work to vote. Not everyone has that option.

Absolutely!!! Not everyone has the luxury of going to the polls. And I think a larger availability of mail-in voting will make more people come out and vote, especially underrepresented communities and that's a very good thing!

Before this election, there were more polling places. A lot of locations were closed in an effort to discourage underrepresented people from voting.
Washington is another state that allows anyone to vote by mail and it was great! I get that there's something special about voting in person, but not everyone can take off work, has the transportation, etc - to vote in person.

Future Elections
Election Day should be a national holiday.
We should be all for expanding access to voting, not shutting it down. Who cares if someone needs to mail in a ballot. In some states polls close at 6pm - that's ridiculous. Expand early voting, expand mail in voting, I'm all for it.

There is NO rule that says elections MUST be decided on election night. Some elections are tight and cannot be predicted for some time and that is normal. People have gotten it in their heads that election night is suppose to be a definitive announcement of a win for whomever but it's just not how things work.
As for voting procedures, there are states that have been doing mail-in voting for YEARS with no issue. This is 2021, there are a myriad of reasons outside of COVID why someone wouldn't be able to get to the polls. We absolutely should have multiple ways to vote in this country especially given how so many states work double time to suppress voting. I hope that we EXPAND voting methods to make it that much easier for everyone to be heard. We should also pass legislation that makes voter registration automatic at age 18, it's idiotic that in the 21st century we have to go out of our way to file paperwork to exercise our right to vote. We need to change with the times.
Just an aside, I dropped off my ballot and it required me to be near nobody nor wait in line. There were secure, Federal drop off boxes all over town and they were outdoors. It took literally one second to get my vote in.
I am not dreading future elections in the same way I never dreaded an election up until now. Until Trump, we all trusted the system and the results and people didn't waste energy trying to steal an election or undermine our democracy. I expect with Trump gone, we will eventually get back to that level of sanity.

In NY it seems there was more of an opportunity to vote with multiple voting days. Not sure where they cut down on the polling places.
I don't disagree with mail in. I do disagree with how it was done this time.

Re: Future Elections
I think mail in is fine if you request a ballot. Mass mailings of ballots is begging for fraud to happen. We also have the most unreliable postal service known to man. I think polling sites should be expanded (as well as times) There is no reason we can't get a polling machine to any rural county in the country.
I also think you should have to show ID to vote but that isn't a popular opinion.
