Gallbladder surgery while breastfeeding?

I have to have my gallbladder removed soon (going Tuesday to find out when) and I am worried about whether it will effect BF my DS.

I am worried that if he takes the bottle he will have nipple confusion and not want me. He's taken a bottle of BM before. Just recently when I had to be rushed to the ER because of the gallbladder pain.
But it was one feeding and I was home in time for his next.


Has anyone gotten the surgery and were still able to BF?

How long were you in surgery and did you have to stay in the hospital over night or longer?

How was the recovery?

I read online that you can breastfeed as soon as you come out of recovery but I am not sure.

I am really hoping I can do this as an out patient and be home the same day. I plan on BF DS before I leave to the hospital and hopefully be gone for maybe 1 or 2 feedings at best. But as they say we make plans and God laughs.

In your opinion how many feedings do you think a baby would need from a bottle to have nipple confusion?
DS is 5 weeks now.

I can't let you know about the bf but i can let you know about the surgery.

I had the option to come home the same day but they didn't tell me that until 8 that night. Normally they want you to stay overnight.

It was a liquid diet right after the surgery and then gradually back to normal food. I was sore for a few days but after a week I felt pretty good.
THe hard part was not being allowed to lift things for 2 weeks. I had a 15 month old and a 6 wk old at the time of the surgery. I would hold the baby but try to have someone give me him for the first couple of days.
