Gel manicures while pregnant- yay or nay?
Gonna get a manicure tomorrow and I hate spending the money on regular manicures when I know they're gonna chip as soon a as I get home - two kids plus husband =no safe place for nails lol-but I'm not sure if a gel manicure is safe
For what it's worth when I take off the gel manicures at home I use non acetone nail polish remover
So, what say you guys?
Go for it or get a regular mani

I'm gonna say it's fine. Considering when I asked my OB if I could dye my hair while pregnant, he laughed and said go ahead. Just no Botox until after 2nd trimester. I said what?!?! He said many of his patients want Botox, cosmetic surgery, you name it while pregnant!

Seriously!? I'm not even tttc yet and I already stopped drinking alcohol and got rid of my highlights. Maybe I'm just a lunatic

Please enjoy those drinks! It's a long bout of sobriety when preggo. I also had my hair dyed multiple times when preggo. I couldn't take the grays any more.
As for op, gel manis are fine.
I abstained from alcohol, cold cuts, and sushi when preggo, and I know plenty of people who only abstain from alcohol

I don't know about bleach (I'd probably stay away bc of fumes), but why would flying in a plane be a problem?

I got shellac manis my whole pregnancy. I don't dye my hair but I would have once it was allowed.

no!!! I think flying is fine up until the last few weeks so you aren't far from your doctor and hospital. Or go into labor in the air I just delivered two months early, so I'm glad we did plan any flights!

I highlight my hair and looked into it a lot in the beginning. Highlights are okay bc they generally don't touch your scalp. Dyeing is a different story though.
As for op... Gel manis are fine I'm sure.

I got bleached highlights all through pregnancy. From before I knew I was pregnant until the end. I wasn't going to be walking around looking like shit. OB said it was fine. The highlights on foil don't even touch your scalp but even if they did the tiny amount that would actually get absorbed and make it to your blood stream is so tiny it would never do any harm.
I also drank before I knew I was pregnant. Like a lot. I told my OB and he was like it's fine. I said, no, you don't understand, I mean I drank a LOT. Like a lot. He laughed and said you don't even share bloodstream with the baby until 6 weeks. ..before that it's just cells dividing. Nothing you do before then will hurt.
So please go drunk and highlight your hair!

OP..... Gel manis are fine. I did it my whole pregnancy (along with hair dye and a glass of wine on occasion and Splenda daily.) And I am sitting here now with tbe healthiest 6 year old I know.

You are actually exposed to radiation while flying on a plane, I believe it's due to the altitude. I just recently read about this again, I think they said three cross country flights shouldn't pose a risk. I would personally limit air travel if possible but do your own research.

I wouldn t stop anything. I was drinking wine right up to the night before I peed on the stick and colored my hair before and during (as early as 6 weeks)

Gel manicures while pregnant- yay or nay?
if I was preg I think I would stay away from anything chemical. There is enough crap in our water, environment and food that messes with our bodies why add to it, that included hair color and nail polish.

Re: Gel manicures while pregnant- yay or nay?
Cuz of a bridal shower and hosting Christmas lol
In all honesty I am super careful about all that other stuff. I never drink- Preggs or not- never smoked anything, barely get manicures, don't dye my hair, no keratin, only use natural sugar, organic chicken etc
Maybe that's why I always look like crap lol
I'll talk to my ob about it before I go. I just hate the thought of getting one and having my nails look nice for two hours and coming home to chip it five minutes later
And the thought of going twice makes me cringe. I hate going and sitting there

Look at it this way...better to go once and get a mani that lasts than to have to keep going back and sitting there and breathing the fumes multiple times!

I agree 1000%- and I know I'm the only one that would notice if a nail is chipped. I can't stand that either. One chip and I attack with the cotton balls
The only thing in my life I'm OCD about. How practical of me

I flew, dyed my hair, and got gel manis the whole time. My son was born 10lbs 15oz, so he was clearly unaffected lmao

i'll be flying to hawaii non stop at 26 weeks (in first class with flatbed seats). my dr says dying hair is fine after the first tri. i don't see why a gel mani would be a problem.
