Re: gender appropriate spinoff and questions...
My friend bought Jared a kitchen (it's boyish looking) and he LOVES it. I see nothing wrong with my son wanting to make me a pancake or cutting fruit.

I think my DH truly believes that Charlie will be gay if he plays with anything besides cars!!
Sounds like my husband.

Re: gender appropriate spinoff and questions...
I really don't know what the issue is with kitchen, dance, shoes, or even dolls.
DH is the cook in our house, he loved the idea of Jake having a kitchen.
I guess some people think it will make their boys more feminine and that they'll be teased later on. That's my rationalization of it because obviously, it can't "make" your child gay.
I DO however have a problem with my daycare ONLY offering dance (ballet & tap) as an "extracurricular" activity. If they offer a "feminine" activity, they should also offer a masculine one. I can't imagine they would ever ONLY offer football. But that's my own separate issue with that particular institution.

DH has no problem with Caden having a kitchen, or the shoe thing, or the purse thing....Dance class he'd have a problem with. In his defense though he thinks dance class in and of itself is silly .
I do know though that he wont have Caden dressed in pinks or purples though. Under any circumstances. But he wont wear those colors either so I dont know if he thinks it's "fairy" or just not a fan of it...

You know what confuses me-- the opposition to boys having play kitchens. DH would NOT let me get DS a play kitchen, the compromise is that I bought him play food and some pots/pans, he sets it all up on the sofa like it's a "stove" and "counter". It is literally his favorite pretend game to play.
But where did the "girly" or "gay" stereotype come from with cooking? To me, if you look at all the celeb chefs, there are more men than women and they're usually very masculine guys.
Then I think you should at least get him this, DH can't be offended-it looks more like camping gear than a stove: Image Attachment(s):

Re: gender appropriate spinoff and questions...
Its such a double standard. Abby will probably have all of the girly-girl things, but I know she will have rough and tough things too. DH and I are trying to decide if we should enroll her in pee-wee football or pee-wee ice hockey. At the same time, I know people would take issue if we had a son and enrolled him in dance classes. I don't think I would have an issue with it personally, I would have more of an issue with people not minding their own business and questioning my parental choices.

Re: gender appropriate spinoff and questions...
DH and I don't have any problems with Steven doing things deemed 'feminine' by society. I really don't know what people's fears are. DH and I happen to believe that you do not TURN gay. But, to each his own. I mean, we wouldn't go out and specifically get him a pink doll carriage, but if he wanted it, I'm sure we could find a cute blue one for him . Maybe some people are afraid of their child getting made fun of.

Re: gender appropriate spinoff and questions...
My DH almost pooped when I bought a pink and blue kitchen for DS.
He has no worries though because DS likes to watch football (by himself his choice) and we heard him say "boobies" in his sleep.
I think we will be ok!

Re: gender appropriate spinoff and questions...
It's funny this comes up, I have afunny story with my nephew.
My sister and BIL were here with the 2 boys (22 months and 4 months) for Amelia's b-day. Now to upset my BIL, we put a pink "mommy's little princess" bib on the 22 month old.
We call my BIl into the room to see. He say's that's ok, so long as it's not a Mets bib.
So it's ok for him to be gay, just not a Met fan.
