Genetics specialist - update
Hi! Tonight I have to go back to the doctor to meet with their genetics specialist. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what goes on during this appointment. Is this necessary? Just wondering
It was totally a procedural appointment. All new patients will meet with the Genetics Specialist. We just went over family history and tests they offer during your pregnancy. I feel much better!

Re: Genetics specialist
sorry - was playing on my new facebook account....i didn't see this earlier....
i had to see one because of a fragile x diagnosis...
we met with the counselor who told us all about the reason we were there (for us fragile x). She told us everything they knew about it - broke it down, WAY idiot proof - it made total sense to us (and it was a lot to learn)....told us our risk factors, based on our test numbers...told us WORST case scenario, BEST case scenario and told us our testing options.
We opted NOT to do an amnio, because the risk factors from that were much worse than our risk factors for the fragile x being a problem.
The appointment, all said & done was about an hour, maybe an hour and a half...

Thanks Jess! I went over my blood work when I had my first sono and Dr. Dolisi said everything was negative. If there was a risk for something wouldn't he have mentioned it then?

Was this a VOLUNTARY appointment or did they call you and suggest you see one? For us - they called and said - there is an issue, etc....please go here...

Re: Genetics specialist
When I was there he just said I'd like you set up appointments with the genetics specialist and the nutritionist. I hope I'm worrying for no reason!!

Re: Genetics specialist
I would call back your OB and ask why specifically he'd like you to see the genetics counselor and nutritionist...is there an issue, etc?

Re: Genetics specialist - update
Thanks...I am going tomorrow and I am so nervous because I have never had this done before and this is my third. Madonna just kept pushing for it after I told them ah when you get the results just send them to my doctor. So now I am paronoid...I think they just want money.
