Getting Induced with Cervidil and Pitocin
My doctor informed me today that I will be getting induced with cervidil and pitocin. Please share your experience. How long did the process last for you? Were you allowed to eat? Thanks!

Re: Getting Induced with Cervidil and Pitocin
That was the induction plan with my first baby, start cervadil at 6pm, keep it in until 6am and then take it out and start pitocin. We started as planned and I couldn't get up for the first two hours. After that I was allowed to eat up until midnight. But things changed quickly around 10pm for me when active labor started kicking in. I delivered my DS shortly before 4am so we never even got to the pitocin. From what I've been told, it's not common for women to go active labor from cervadil alone but I guess my body was just ready!

Getting Induced with Cervidil and Pitocin
Mine was quick. They told me I'd get cervadil, if nothing happened in 12hrs I'd get a little break then they'd give it to me again. I wouldn't get pitocin until after the 2nd round of cervadil.
4 hours after getting the first cervadil I went into labor.

Re: Getting Induced with Cervidil and Pitocin
Plan was to get cervadil for 12 hrs, Sleep and then start pitocin in in the morning. I got cervadil at 11am. I think I had to lay there for 1-2 hrs but then could move around, eat, etc. I was contracting a little bit in the evening but not terrible. When they removed it at 11pm, it put me into labor and I gave birth at 3:22am

Getting Induced with Cervidil and Pitocin
Currently going through it right now. Just waiting for them to come in with the cervidil. I'm hoping but not optimistic that it will go better this time around. For my first experience, you can read my birth story if you click on my profile.
I tried everything I could think of to avoid going through it again but alas, here I am.

Re: Getting Induced with Cervidil and Pitocin
I was induced with both my DCs. The first time, I only had Cervadil and progressed on my own and didn't need Pitocin. They ended up letting me eat around midnight or 12:30a after giving me the Cervadil probably around 9p. I delivered at 4p the next afternoon but active labor (pushing) was an hour or so.
With my second, I was already 4cm dilated when I was admitted. I was given only Pitocin. I had eaten beforehand because I remembered from my previous induction that it was an issue. Labor was super quick this time. Pitocin given at 8:45p. They woke me up around 2a to start pushing because I was 9cm dilated. Pushed for 15-20 mins and baby was here!
I was lucky that both my inductions went well.

Re: Getting Induced with Cervidil and Pitocin
I was just induced last weekend with cytotec and Pitocin. went into hospital at 1 cm. I did 2 rounds of cytotec and was still only 1 cm, but mild contractions were happening. then we started Pitocin and I really started progressing. all together 15 hours of labor, 20 min to push a 9lb baby out lol. good luck! - I wasn't allowed to eat anything or walk the halls. ice chips only! I literally went 24 hours without eating. ugh
with my first pregnancy, I was induced with cervadil only. I progressed quickly, but then it took almost 10 hours to become fully dialated. I was allowed to have ginger ale and I think applesauce and was allowed to walk the halls.

Getting Induced with Cervidil and Pitocin
I had both 8 weeks ago. I was 41 weeks exactly and not dilated at all!! So doc decided to induce. They started the cervidil at midnight, started contracting right away. Within a few hours I was 4cm. By 7am they had to take it out bc I was contracting back to back but not progressing. My doc came in at 9 and broke my water. By 1pm I was at 10cm but had a 100.9 fever so they wouldn't let me push. Waited until it dropped below the 100.4 mark (if it's above, baby automatically goes to the nicu for 48 hrs for antibiotics). Started pushing around 2pm, pushed for 2 1/2 hours. Somewhere in those 2 1/2 hours they have the petocin because the contractions were too far apart and they didn't want me to continue pushing for too much longer. At 4:30 they tried suction but that didn't work either. So ended up with an emergency section and my baby girl was born at 4:37pm. Her head was cocked sideways so she wouldn't come out, hence why she never dropped and I wasn't dilated at all.
Can't get up for 2 hours after the cervidil is inserted. And they didn't let me eat or drink anything except ice chips from the time I got to the hospital at 9pm Tuesday, had her on Wednesday and then they wouldn't let me have anything except water until Thursday morning breakfast.

Thanks! Unfortunately I think I'm in for another long long induction. I'm so miserable right now and there's no end in sight.

My water broke and they gave me cervedil when I got to the hospital. I think I had it in for about 2 hours or so..wasn't long at all. I couldn't get up while it was in or eat.

Same with me, for both my children. In my case the cervadil was enough to get my contractions started so I didn't need Pitocin. My DS was a successful induction but my DD was not- I was not progressing past 5 cm and her heart rate kept dropping so I needed a C-Section (turns out the cord was wrapped around her shoulders preventing her from coming down, so I would have needed a C-Section anyway).

That was my induction process with DD 4 years ago and it took foreverrrr. I was 7 days past due date. They started me with Cervidil and kept it in for something like 10 hours. It did nothing. Then we went onto pitocin - it didn't do much either. Then they gave me an epidural and upped the pitocin way more than I think they should have and eventually broke my water, etc, etc. Long story, short, it was a total of 34 hours from start to finish, but did end in a successful vaginal delivery and a beautiful little girl. I always joke about how my labor was basically just me being bored and achy while watching movies all day, then an hour of intense pain, a few pushes, and it was over. I don't remember any eating restrictions throughout this, just a lot of discomfort and waiting. I keep hoping I won't have to be induced this time around, but who knows.

Re: Getting Induced with Cervidil and Pitocin
I was induced with just Pitocin. I had a pretty good experience overall. It was a long process - I labored for a total of 17 hours and pushed for 1 1/2 hours, but I was comfortable once I got the Epi and I didn't need a C-section, so I was happy.

Re: Getting Induced with Cervidil and Pitocin
With DS #2 - I had 2 rounds of cervadil - worst part couldn't eat. My dr did allow me lemon jell-o though. Then when I got a few centimeters dilated they started Pitocin around 10 or 11 in the morning and DS was born around 2:30 after 3 pushes. It wasn't that bad.

Re: Getting Induced with Cervidil and Pitocin
I was induced twice with cervadil. Both great experiences. The first time I went into active labor with just cervadil. I had it put in around 8pm. They let me eat a sandwich at 12am. Then I couldn't eat anymore.

Re: Getting Induced with Cervidil and Pitocin
I was so scared to be induced, but I have to say it was a great labor! I only had Cervidil and once they gave that to me at 9 am my DD was born before 2pm. I did have major contractions and thought I would be able to deliver without the epidural, that was a joke I didn't have a break in between contractions and I progressed quick--4 pushes in 20 mins and she was born. Good Luck.
