On Long Island..or at least in Nassau and Suffolk..911 will take you to the closest hospital..as long as that hospital is accepting patients...(wouldnt be an issue for a laboring female)...

i've been a little worried about this. we live in queens and will be delivering at winthrop. i figured if i go into labor, while dh is at work in nyc, i will call my dad or brother (both on long island) to come and get me and dh will just take the train to mineola and meet us there.
i'm banking on the whole hours and hours of labor thing!
