It may not be what other moms do, but it's real for her. And she IS a real mom.

Yes, she is a real mom but I don't think she represents what the "real" world is for the majority of working moms. She is not an example of what balancing career and family really entails, IMO.

My first thought..shes incorporating her family into her career herself. Irs possible ti balance family & career. Good for her.

I agree. I think it's awesome!! And also fitting in BF while working! It's hard to do. I did it for a year and still don't know how.

For me, this picture doesn't show what it is really like for the "real" mom to balance family and career. I think her putting herself out there as an example of balancing family and career is so unfair to working moms. Most working moms don't have someone to do dote on them...do their make up, hair and nails. Most moms are struggling to get dressed while pumping and minding to their baby. Most of working moms don't have a job where they call the shots and can stop working because their child needs them. I think it's the presumption that this is the example of balancing family and career that hurts so many women since this is something that is so out of reach for most working moms.

I completely agree. I BF and am a FTWM and this is so far from my reality. I don't relate to this at all. i don't know how she can caption this picture multitasking when she has a team of people around her doing the work.

I struggle as a FTM with tryoing to find balance between baby, work, family, etc, and this just does a disservice to all of us working so hard at it.

Honestly, I think the OP posting this is a pure ploy to start drama. The BF vs FF song and dance is real old.

Why can't there ever just be a normal adult discussion about the the pros and cons and different views on things? Why is everything drama?

I'm not starting drama. But you don't think this thread will completely go south, like every other BF thread on LIF?

I'm all for a constructive, adult conversation. But this topic hardly ever warrants a mature dialogue. It routinely ends in bickering and snark. I'd love for this thread to prove me wrong.

I'm a FF mom and think this pic is awesome nothing more, nothing less, no reading between the lines or insinuations. She looks like a happy, content mother bonding with her baby amid her hectic work life.

You do realize that YOU are the one who sunk it to that level, right? Chat Icon

All I said was that *I* thought posting this picture would cause drama. It would stir the pot and cause the big BF vs FF debate.

If it doesn't create drama, then that will be great. I think the BF vs FF battle is silly and just makes people feel like crap.

You didn't just say you thought the thread would cause drama. You said op as in me, posted and a ploy to create drama which I take offense to bc that is not my character and the only drama on here is with you. Sounds like you may have your own issues with nursing vs formula. As you can see by this thread all of the lovely ladies on here can voice their adult opinions without any drama. As far as going back and forth with you, I'm done.

I definitely see what you're saying, but I dont understand why she has to represent what we regular working moms are doing. If I posted a pic of me nursing at work, it wouldnt go viral, and that wouldnt help the cause! Chat Icon All I see here is her normalizing breastfeeding, regardless of the circumstances.

I think we are also assuming that her life is really easy. I dont envy celebrities, they have a whole other level of problems to deal with. While she makes it all loook so easy in the pic, who knows what she's going through in her life right now. BFing may be the only peaceful, stressfree thing that's happening to her.

(On a side note, I cant believe that *I* am sticking up for Gisele, I otherwise cant stand her!)

Giselle. Thoughts on this pic?

So, anyway......

Great comments ladies. I saw this on GMA this morning and was curious what everyone thought. There seems to be controversial over it bc on one side she is coming off condescending like look at me, I'm super mom all on 3 hours of sleep and that's not a realistic picture for everyday moms. I know for me taking a shower and being able to dry my hair and not leave it soaking wet is a luxury.

On the other hand it is a nice picture bc she is a very hands on mom even while working.

I'm not a fan of hers bc if her comment how it should be a law every woman should bf until 6 months and then later recanted and said all moms should support each other and they are all just doing their best.

It's not a formula vs nursing debate picture.

I did not think it looks condescending at all. I think it is great that she is juggling.

I don't think she is on 3 hrs of sleep though. Most people with money have night nurses/nannies.

Probably my opinion bc I don't like her to begin with bc she has come off that way before with all of her comments about weight, nursing, eating habits. Etc. The only reason she had 3 hours of sleep is bc she just got off a 15 hour flight.

Juggling work and motherhood (especially breast feeding) isn't easy and I respect her for trying to have it all.

See but I think that everyone knows that this is not the "realistic" picture of a working mom.
We can clearly see that she is sitting there having her hair and nails worked on.
I don't think anyone would take it as- I must be doing something wrong if my hair doesn't look like hers while I am sitting there BFing my child after 3 hours of sleep.
Her reality is quite different than most people's.
I would never compare myself and my life as a FTWM to hers.
So I don't find it offensive or condescending at all. It's just HER reality.

I think this picture is nice for HER to have as a memory of what a typical day for HER was like with her baby.

But I don't think it should be shared with the intent of trying to show the world how she "balances" being a mom and having a career. It's so different for celebrities who can have their children there with them and just breast feed them and attend to any of their other needs whenever they come up, and who also can have nannies at their disposal right there to help out vs. working moms who have to miss and worry about their kids all day while they're at work, doing real work, not sitting and getting their hair and makeup done.

I am a SAHM mom for now, and I give so much credit to working moms and all they have to do and truly balance. This picture doesn't depict that by a long shot.

Hmmm maybe I'm the minority here but I don't find this to be condescending at all. More inspiring than anything. She's showing that you can find a balance between working and family. And it's great to see sometimes.

Clearly one's views on breastfeeding and Giselle herself can influence one's thoughts on this picture. I am not a huge fan of her but our kids were born on the same day and I'm still nursing too. If I were a supermodel, I'd take a pic like that if I could!!!

I think it's really important to show pictures like this to normalize breastfeeding. While it may not be normal for you or me to BF while getting our hair done by a team of people, I have BF'ed in the salon. And it IS normal to BF anywhere and everywhere, as uncomfortable as it makes some people feel.

I was actually thinking the same exact thing!!! Ironically this post about drama starting is actually the person starting the drama in the first place. Interesting!

Knowing who it is a picture of and the crap that she has spewed over the years, my first thought was Chat Icon - not because of the BFing, i could not care less about that, but because of the condescending message she is clearly trying to send. Look at me, look how wonderful I am, I am a perfect mother who BFs and works all at the same time, you can have it all, blah blah blah.

If it were ANYONE else, anyone at all, I'd think this was a great photo, and like a PP said, the first thing I noticed was her hair!
