I saw a clip with Cuomo talking about letting some towns in upstate NY start opening up after May 15th. First time I have heard any mention of it. Hopefully things will move in the right direction.

I think he was saying that he's going to start assessing and regionally opening areas that have not been as effected. Once you get out of the lower counties, there is a huge difference in numbers. I hope they test the waters a bit up north.

Well atleast he mentioned something......Gov. Murphy is still only saying we got more weeks to go before we even start phase 1.

That’s because Governor Murphy is just following Cuomo. He’s doesn’t make any move until NYC does it. I stopped watching NJ news because only what NYC says matters.

Eh I trust everything he says with a grain of salt. I think that the date will be pushed out to July but he's just doing it little by little so people don't lose their minds.

So, from what I understand- Cuomo said the tristate area really needs to operate as one- since we're so intertwined with commuting, etc. He said that IF the number of diagnosis declines steadily for 14 days, we will start reopening some places in upstate NY considered essential on May 15th. That he will do it it in phases and that each phase will take about 10-14 days to see how it goes before he opens the next phase. He said that NYC, Nassau, Suffolk & Westchester will be considered one region and will likely be the last to reopen. I think it's smart, but I think it also means NYC/LI won't be opening back up until mid to late June.

I'm curious what the rules are going to be regarding visiting people when Phase 1 begins. My mother really wants us all over for Mother's Day. I'm thinking not actual Mother's Day since that's before 5/15, but the weekend after. If they start opening businesses on 5/16, could we then have family get-togethers then?

There will be a light at the end of the tunnel, I think the first hurdle is to see when Phase 1 occurs if there is another wave and how bad it is. That will influence anything else going forward.

I just feel like common sense dictates that when stuff opens, it will increase again. It's going to be like when the kids go back to school from a school holiday, and stuff starts spreading around again. But, we can't all stay home forever. Risk vs. Reward, I suppose, like Cuomo always says.

They really can't control family get togethers.
If you wanted to have one now you could.
Just because they say it's now "OK" doesn't mean it's any safer than it was yesterday, kwim?

I agree. My parents came by on Saturday- we sat in the yard and stayed 6 ft away from each other.

Yes it’s really up to you and what you’re comfortable with. Where you’ve been...where they’ve been...if anyone is higher risk.
I’m not avoiding my parents because the government told me to, I’m doing it because I don’t want them to get sick because of my family.

Since my husband still goes to work every day, I would not feel comfortable seeing my parents yet. However my sister’s family has not been anywhere for over a month....so she has seen her MIL recently.

Yup, Risk vs. Reward at this point IMO. If my grandmother lived here, we would probably set up a visit in the yard. I mean, she could pass away tomorrow and that would be terrible that we were living in isolation for so long and couldn't enjoy moments with her..... but can stand in line at the grocery store with strangers.

Glimmer of Hope?

If the weather is nice on my son's birthday in May, I plan on allowing grandparents only to come and have cake with us in the backyard. We have not been anywhere since March 15th, with the exception of going for walks and bike rides as a family. All of our groceries have been delivered.
Both my parents and inlaws have also been in isolation since March 15th. I won't have them come into my home, but hoping the weather is nice so we can have them over outside. My son is really struggling, and I know seeing his grandparents, even if he can't hug them, will really lift his spirits.

Yes, but I'm confused on how this is different from people complaining about other people having parties in their houses. We'd be 11 people total from 3 different houses. And, it would be dinner indoors, not something in the backyard.

At some point we're going to have to start coming out of hibernation and I'm not sure what's the best way to do it.

He’s actually on now, talking in circles and not giving any information.

I also love how he thanked the Army Corp of Engineers but not the Union men who came from all over the country to build the hospitals.

I have resigned myself to the fact that life won't really be normal until maybe September. I figured it's better to keep my expectations really low and then be pleasantly surprised if it happens sooner. I would rather avoid the disappointment by not hoping for any sense of normalcy in the spring/summer.

I mean I guess it's not. But, in reality having dinner with family on 5/16 isn't going to be any "safer" than having dinner on 5/15. You just won't get the judgement on 5/16, I guess?

Re: Glimmer of Hope?

5/15 won’t be the date for downstate. They still have to see every 2 weeks what is going on and then maybe Phase 1 will start.

Yes, I guess once Phase 1 starts then home get togethers are "legal"? I don't know what right anymore!

Glimmer of Hope?

What I got from this is that he is going to allow some reopening upstate on May 15th, starting with phase 1. There is going to be testing, monitoring, and there needs be a very close eye on things to make sure it doesn’t spike again. Let’s hope that by May 15th we see a huge decrease so we can start at that time. He did say May 15th the pause expires but he will likely extend it for some areas. I think he’s doing the right thing. We have to be very careful about how we go about this...
